Jogged a bit, found friends near the front of the 7500+ folks at the start.

Since I started at the front, my first mile was right under 9 minutes - felt strong and kept the pace up. The negative thoughts were swirling around my head from about mile 1.5're too fast, slow down, it's gonna hurt, you don't have enough in the tank, blah, blah, blah...Mile 3 to 4 felt like forever but then at mile 4, it was right about 35 mins. I figured if I slowed to a 9, I'd still go 44 and PR. It didn't take me long to dismiss that. I went for it - head down, focused on form and nothing else. Almost puked about 200 yds. from the finish but held on to PR by 2:06!! May be a little faster b/c this is the gun time. Chip times aren't up yet.
What would you do differently?:

Warm down:

Walked around till I found Mike and our friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was fast!

Event comments:

Love, love, love this race. Official summer kick off for me! Starts on Ocean Ave. and meanders thru a beautiful oceanside town. Usually not a race to PR on since there's so many people but starting up front was a great call! I was worried about being trampled by the faster people around but I wasn't the slowest by any means. Still plenty of weaving for the first 2 miles or so. Found an annoying FB friend at the end - she asked my time and when I told her, she said, Oh, I thought you'd be way faster than that!? WTF? She finished in 48 mins. Whatever. Blow me. Well, you get my point.
