Overall Rank = 25/50
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/?
Pre-race routine:

This was my 1st tri so I showed up really early to see what was going on. I helped the volunteers set up bike racks, string buoys, and asked a lot of questions.
Event warmup:

3/4 mile jog then some stretching. Then I got in the cold lake and swam 2 x 50 yards or so with some other competitors.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 273 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was quite the experience. The first 100 yards were going great until somebody swam over the top of me which resulted in my goggles getting half kicked off. I tried to get back into a rythm but now my goggles are so fogged that I was swimming blind. I just settled for side-stroking the rest of the swim which was disappointing.
What would you do differently?:

I would stay farther outside the crowd and just get tougher and get back to my stroke after there is contact.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T-1 seemed to go just fine. I passed a ton of people who were really taking their time in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I was happy with it.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 13 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I really surprised myself on the bike leg. In training I figured I averaged 16.5-17 mph but during the race I was at or above 18 mph. Passed quite a few and got passed by 2.
What would you do differently?:

From looking at race pictures, I see that I am too compact and I could raise the seat and maybe lower the bars some.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

T-2 was quick because I biked in my running shoes (toe cages)
Run
  • 00m
  • 3 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

Started out a bit rough off the bike but then after 3/4 mile I found a good rythm and cruised through. I finished strong with a smile on my face.
What would you do differently?:

I just need to run more to increase speed.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and high fived/hugged/kissed my friends and family. That was cool down enough. I was super excited.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim, bike setup (positioning), and overall fitness.

Event comments:

This was my 1st tri and I couldn't be happier. I beat my personal goal by 10:33 and won my age group (although it was a small local sprint). I had the biggest cheering section of anybody with about 25 friends and family all cheering and waving huge signs. I almost got choked up coming into the finish with all the support.

I'm so glad I chose a local event so that everyone could come and share this experience with me.

I have a lot of room for improvement and I am looking forward to the next event which will be the same format on July 3rd.

Great job. I did this as my first TRI as well, but I did the one a couple months ago and then the Mothers day on. I signed up for this one but was way into relaxing over the weekend and for some reason thought the race started at 2pm. I WAS WAY WRONG. I was also bummed out I drove 1.5 hours to not race.

Great job on your first race. Trust me it gets a lot easier after the first one. Hope to see you around at some races.

Wish I was. I am going on vacation and will be doing the half IM at Ocean Shores on the 10th, I will need all the energy I can. Good luck.

Right on.  I was contemplating doing OS instead of the one on the 3rd but since I already signed up, I'll go with it.  I don't think it would be feasible to do both at my current fitness level.

Sprints are tough for this rookie.  Next year though I plan to do an Oly.

Good luck in the HIM.
