Pre-race routine:

I worked all day so not much of a routine. I tried to drink a lot and brought some food that I could eat on the way as ai was coming striaght from work. This would be my second attempt at completing my first tri. I did this race two weeks ago and my pedal fell off during the ride. I edalled the last few miles in with one leg and then lightening shut everything down
Event warmup:

Not much, I did a little jogging, stretching, swimming and then some more stretching.
Swim
  • 08m 51s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my third OWS and second one that was in a race. Two weeks ago (my 1st OWS) I discovered 3 important things 1) I am not afraid of OWS, 2)I don't mind getting banged around and 3) I pull to the left. I practiced on Monday with a friend and she corrected my swimming.

I started in the middle of the pack and got off to a good start. I sighted every 5 or 6 strokes and was swimming suprisingly straight. There was a log jam at the buoy so I had to swim hard to get out and that took a little out of me. The trip back was uneventfull though I was a bit tired.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get into my swim stroke a little more consistently. This swim was dramtically better than last time but I have to learn to relax more.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T-1 times are included in the swim time. T-1 went well as I was able to get my wetsuit off quickly but I did have problems getting my bike shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothinh
Bike
  • 34m 3s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.15 mile/hr
Comments:

I was a little dissappointed in my bike as I thought I would be faster. I am a runner first anf foremast and lack raod biking skills and power. I saving a little too much for the run. I think I could have pushed harder on the bike and still had the same run.
What would you do differently?:

Push the pace a bit more
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Nothing to comment on, included in run time
Run
  • 21m 32s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 06m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Running is my sport so I was excited to get off the bike and see how my legs felt. They felt really good and I pushed the pace early. I just tried to keep a nice even pace through the whole run. I passed a lot of people and felt strong. One guy passed me right at the end but I didn't care, I could finally say that I was a triathlete
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, run felt great. Good pacing, I was very happy with my split.
Post race
Warm down:

Just some water and strecthing

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'll never be a fast swimmer because I probably won't put in the time. So the real limiting factor is the bike, which I am going to work really hard on. I have a HIM in 7 weeks and need to get much better riding.

Event comments:

This is a great 1st tri for anyone. It is low key and very friendly. It is difficult for me to get to the race because of work but whenever I can make it, I will.

Pretty impressive race, way to go. no way you should be disappointed about 21mph on the bike.
