Subject: RE: Create Our Own Mentor Group? (June - September) abqtj - 2010-06-07 5:53 PM Still pretty new to the site...what is a mentor group and how do they work?
I never bothered to even look in that forum much since it said it's all closed. Different groups work differently, but in general it is a smaller environment where you can ask questions of someone who might know the answer, or who would probably know where to look for the answer. It's also a great mutual-support environment. You can share stuff with each other that really doesn't need to be the topic of a world-wide thread (like "I had a great swim today..." or "I did my first group ride today, and here's what I thought..." and so on. ) Feel free to check out my group if you want to see one example. The subject lines of the mentor groups all say 'closed' (or some variation on that theme ) because when the groups are forming, there has to come a time when, for the moment, there are enough people in the group. Sometimes, after a while, some participants may drop off for whatever reason, in which case the group might be open to late-comers. OP has it right -- if you want to join, look at the groups and find one that seems about right, then PM the mentor. |
