Overall Rank = 99/210

Age Group Rank = 12/27
Event warmup:

My 'Event Warmup' was avoiding all swimming for about 2-3 months prior to this event. I think it worked out really well.
Swim
  • 30m 3s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m / 100 meters
Comments:

I definitely felt the results of my lack of swimming but, I just tried to keep my head down and keep paddling. On the way out to the turnaround I got kicked in the rib cage twice and a forearm shiver into the side of the head but it didn't really phase me. I did have to slow down and let the couple of guys beating me up pass me.
What would you do differently?:

Trust that I can swim straight without having to sight so much.
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

I pulled my right ass muscle somewhere before getting on the bike.
Bike
  • 1h 10m 7s
  • 28.8 miles
  • 24.64 mile/hr
Comments:

When you pull a muscle in your ass...you can't bike well.

Done.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

I felt like I took my time even while making sure my movements were deliberate and hurried. I knew I had lost a lot of time due to my bike start fiasco so I was just going to nail T2 and get out to my strength on the run. Started to feel Zen at this point.
What would you do differently?:

Not too much.
Run
  • 45m 33s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

The sun was out but the real heat didn't take hold so we had a real chance to run fast. The race billing delivered on both the bike and the run sections. I really hope that the race comes closer to selling out next year.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit and tryed to stretch my ass.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Injury to my butt.

I had the worst possible bike start. I shot right out of T1 and made sure to run past the mount line to avoid any possible congestion. Since I had a bottle on the rear hydration mount I couldn't use a running bike mount, so I stopped and got my right leg over the top tube. Got my foot on top of the pedal and went to coast into the start of my pedaling. As soon as I started putting pressure on the right pedal I noticed something was either pulled or cramping in my right ass. I couldn't get more than 4 miles an hour and a few minutes of this and I was off my bike on the side of the road trying whatever I could to stretch and make it pass. It didn't. After about 2 more minutes on the side of the road and getting chicked about 5-6 times I decided to just get back on and move. I slowly pushed with the pain and got up to about 15mph. Once I got onto the highway I had become accostomed to the pain and I decided to push hard and go all-in. I'm proud of pushing through. I've never been faced with the decision of having to quit and I didn't let it ruin my day.

I was feeling the effects of pushing it on the bike after such a slow start and I didn't know how 6.2 miles was going to play out in regards to my energy stores and muscle conditions. As a result I took it out a bit too conservitavely to start. I had my eye on a guy in my age group that inched past me and built a lead of about 1 minute over the course of the 1st mile. Had I had a better idea of my ability to handle a faster pace I would have stayed with him.
Course: Out and back on the beginning portion of the Bike leg.

Great job despite the -muscle pull. That would definitely hurt the bike performance. Good work fighting through it. Cool pictures...
