Swim
Comments: Went out to deep water where no one was to avoid the crowds and swim a straight line rather than the curve of the beach. Worked well. I was just going to take it easy and it was going faster than I thought-- I was even passing prior waves! It went A LOT faster and easier than I imagined. Wetsuit worked well. I was even the first woman in our wave out of the water. What would you do differently?: nothing! Transition 1
Comments: Had a good end spot. Had helmet strap issues and had to take time to fix it. Took my time making sure I did every IMPORTANT thing right so I wouldn't have to redo anything or get penalized. What would you do differently?: Practice more with the wetsuit, don't be afraid to run instead of jog in transition. Bike
Comments: Took my time-didn't want to burn out my legs. could have gone harder. Think I need to drink more on the bike. What would you do differently?: Push it a little harder. Transition 2
Comments: Ok. Almost made a freshman mistake of taking my helmet off too early. That was close! What would you do differently?: Again, practice more. Run
Comments: Humid, terrain was not ideal. Path was a bit narrow. Felt like I wasn't moving but I apparently was doing just fine. Had my cheering section waiting for me at the top of the stairs!!! Had residual phlegm from my cold which hindered my running groove. What would you do differently?: Wear plastic bags around me shoes--yuck! Again, pick up the pace a little bit. I was being careful with my first race. I wanted to finish and not pass out! Post race
Warm down: uh... ate food What limited your ability to perform faster: ending a cold from a week prior. I'm still amazed that it went away so fast. Also the fact that this was race #1, I felt like I needed to focus on the transitions and keeping my body in check to make sure I didn't fall over from the illness. Event comments: Sarah was impressed, so I guess it would be pretty good. I didn't realize I was doing as well as I did. I'm pleased and am excited to do this race next year! Woke at 4:45, pb toast for breakfast and a little coffee. Packed the night before. Foggy drive there! Was one of the first 30 cars there. Got a spot on the end for transition!
Light jogs as I went from car to transitions or bathrooms.
