Anyone else doing this? It's the first year for the race, and the first time we've been in a race at that location. Anyone have a read on water temperature, etc?

I'm in the same boat as you but I would guess water temp is 63 or above...I've done 59 already so not worried. It's a 40 minute drive for me and I need more swim....trying to get in Morton's in Plymouth. (bruised quad nice today)

I've been swimming the last three days at location of Cranberry which is very close to Minuteman lake and water is great. Very comfortable in my wetsuit, but someone was going to swim without on Sunday and she was cold.

I'll be there Saturday to support my husband doing the sprint and friends doing the HIM. I am signed up for the HIM but had surgery so won't be racing. I think I'm a swim volunteer with my kids.

The site for Long Pond said they expect 67 degrees for the swim this weekend. It's a 1/4 mile and I'm thinking of doing it sans wetsuit. Im not sure yet. I have one to use but it's getting too big for me.

I'm doing the sprint. It's my first ever tri, and I was also considering whether to wear a wetsuit. If the temps are in the upper 60s, I would think it would be better to wear the suit. It doesn't save a ton of time during a 400m swim, but the warmth and standing around before the swim waves will be nice.

Good luck to everyone - I'm planning on arriving around 5:30. I'm an hour away (Bedford) and dragging my somewhat reluctant wife along. Leaving the house around 4:30 on a Saturday morning isn't her idea of a fun time.

Off to do my last swim workout before the race!

I'd suggest wearing your wetsuit..mid 60s is chilly for no wetsuit.

Hey folks. I'm one of the RDs for the Minuteman. The water temp as of Tuesday was 69 degrees. With things heating up in the next coupkle of days, it should be in the low to mid 70s by race morning.

Yeah Im definitely thinking I'll go without the suit. It'll be really warm out during the race so the short cool swim should actually work to my advantage. Plus Im a big dude, so i dont get cold real easily. My wife on the other hand is 5'4" 120# so we bought her a suit last night from Fast Splits. They gave us a good deal on a used suit for her, and while we buy most of our stuff from Wheelworks our team sponsor, I can't imagine getting treated better or a better buy anywhere else. Especially on our limited pre-honeymoon budget.

Was just at Fast Splits this morning getting some more body glide. I'm planning on wearing the suit, but I'll get there early and go for a short swim in the suit. If I really feel warm I'll just wear my tri suit.

Can us Patriot HIM'ers bogart this thread?

Hopefully 24 hours from now all you sprinters will be happily fed and cheering for the Patriots. Hopefully 24 hours from now I'll be about to finish (or just finished) the 2nd loop of the bike course.

As for now, I just wrote out my nutrition plan and am about to start labeling bottles so I know what to mix at 4:30am.

All finished up with my first ever tri! The run course wasn't well marked, and I ended up running an extra mile (4.98 total miles total according to my Garmin 305). Several other top people did the same thing - I saw what I thought was the top group heading back towards me on the run only to be told that we had missed a turn. I was 10th after the bike, and the results aren't up yet. It's a bit frustrating to know I probably would have been top 10 if that first left turn was properly marked.

I ran at a 6:48 pace and did the run in 34 minutes - that would have been around 27:10 for 4 miles. I only got passed by one person on the bike and two on the run. My overall time was around 1:23 - take away that extra mile and it would have been close to 1:16. At least I'll know the course next year!

Congrats on an awesome finish for your first tri!  Good lesson to drive or run the course next time.  Good luck with the rest of the season.

Lesson learned the hard way - I did glance at the PDF of the bike and run courses, but should have been a bit more thorough. I'll always do that from now on.

Did anyone else get a distance longer than 14 miles for the bike? Splits are up now.

Hey all,

New to BT. Finished the Patriot (my first HIM). The run almost killed me in the noon time sun. I overheated at about mile 7-8 and did not think I would finish. The next couple of miles were SLOW and then got my temp down a little and was able to limp in the last 3 miles.

Congrats Nate on the fast run.
