Subject: New Delaware Triathlete
Hi, I just registered today to compete in my first sprint triathlon in June in Delaware. I figured I'd start out small, and work up. I have been following the postings on this site for a little while, and have gotten a lot of helpful advice and hints from everyone, so thank you! I know that a tri suit is probably the best bet for clothing, but are there any suggestions other than that? Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi!  Welcome to the site!  Don't be shy....just start firing away with those questions.

I can only speak to clothing for guys, but there are some universal things.

One of the most important things you can do (clothing wise) is get a great pair of running shoes.  Do not skimp here - it is too important.  Be sure to go into an established running store and seek advice from the professionals.  I also find that good running socks (low friction) are good for long runs.

Other than that, I'll defer to the ladies on the site for other clothing suggestions.

congrats on deciding to tri ...i am not to far away in philly and also getting ready for my 1st tri some time this summer ...i would have to agree w/ others in that you should go to a runner's specific store and get fitted correctly for shoes and also highly recommend running socks ( no cotton)

Thanks for the input. I have great shoes (at least I think they are great) and seem to be doing well on that end. I've run a few 5K's and 5 mile runs over the past few months, so the running part (which is only 3 miles in this sprint tri) should be okay, assuming I'm still breathing by the time I get there! Hopefully I won't sink during the swimming though.....

Welcome! And no sinking allowed

Seriously, you'll find a lot of moral support and technical advice here. Pop in as often as you can.
