Total Time = 1h 06m 45s
Overall Rank = 7/84
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/10
Pre-race routine:

Shaved my head. Ate fig bars and bananas on the way to the race.
Event warmup:

Ran about 2 miles.
Swim
  • 05m 21s
  • 300 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a bit of a chaotic swim. It was in a pool w/ lanes marked on the bottom, but no lane ropes and we were supposed to swim down and back in each 'lane'. I am positive I swam the correct distance, but there were a number of people that cut it short by at least 50 yds. We seeded ourselves based on what we thought our time would be and I didn't get passed by anybody so I guess I was close.

Swim time is a bit deceiving- we had to swim another 25-30 yds after the 300 to exit the pool and then had a pretty decent distance to transition. I guessed I would do the swim in about 4:50, and I think I was exactly on the number.
What would you do differently?:

Never really found a rhythm, just got through it. Was quite winded afterwards. Need to focus more on my race and not worry what other people are doing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

Shirt stuck, velcro straps on my shoes came out of the loops, forgot to put on my helmet, bib number broke when i was putting on the belt- horrible T1. Thought this would be closer to 3 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Still need a nice tri jersey. Everything I have feels too loose to wear during the swim.
Bike
  • 38m 41s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 19.23 mile/hr
Comments:

Took a peek at my avg. speed at the halfway point (21.2) and thought that I would have a good bike split for once, but then we made the turn back and it was just one climb after another. Nothing rolling, just climbing- very tough.
Transition 2
  • 00m 27s
Comments:

Smoked through this one.
Run
  • 21m 2s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Best tri run yet. Had my legs the whole time and really felt amazing. Had tons left in my legs at the end, but couldn't force myself to run any faster. Really enjoyed myself out there.
What would you do differently?:

Need to mix in some speed work occasionally.
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged about a mile.

Event comments:

Great race other than the pool issues. Had a blast out there today- and brought home the AG gold!!

Sounds like if it could have gone wrong in T1 it did.   Weird they didn't put lane lines down.  Awesome race.  Good job.  Awesome standings too.

Awesome race save for T1.  I think everyone has one of those at some point (from what I have seen).

Great race - congrats!
