Swim

  • 880 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Navigate better. Zig-zag too much in the first leg of the swim, lost time, but it was still better than most of my races to date. Not bad considering that I just finished 5 weeks of PT for my shoulder and have done only 3 swim training sessions in last 5 weeks
Transition 1
  • 03m 35s
Comments:

This transition was pretty much a trainwreck. It just felt like I was taking forever and had to sit to finally get the wetsuit off.
Bike
  • 52m 29s
  • 17.2 miles
  • 19.66 mile/hr
Comments:

the mileage that I have been putting on the bike is definitely starting to pay off. This is the best pace that I have had yet, and even though the first third of the race was slightly uphill and I could feel my breathing getting heavier, I was able to push through it and averaged a sold 20+ pace for the remaining 2/3 of the bike portion
Transition 2
  • 02m 22s
Comments:

Could probably still shave a few seconds off of the T2 time, but overall was okay with it.
Run
  • 29m 27s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

For the first event of the year, I was very happy with the run portion. For the first time on the run I actually felt like I was racing, versus surviving. I have been doing a fair amount of speed work this spring to lower my times on the run and when I do them as a stand alone workout, the times have been coming down. To see it work on the course makes the work that much more worth it.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around and enjoy father's day with the family

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of swim training in the weeks leading up to first event, and a very sub-par T1. The rest of it will come over the course of the season

Great job! Your bike fitness is prob what helped you in your run. Makes for a fun race when you can 'race' it and not just try to survive! Congrats

Nice race, and the swim is very good considering the shoulder...good job!
BTW, spray lube for the lower limbs solves the wetsuit issue

Yeah,

I tried using the body glide around the ankle/calf area before the race, but I don't think that was enough.  The sad part is that when I look at where I placed, if I could have just lost 2-3 minutes in the transition areas, I would have jumped about 90 spots in the standings overall and about 15 in my age group.....D'OH
