Swim
Comments: Didn't really need the wetsuit, but I wore it just for practice and feel. Didn't really have anyone to draft- I should have gotten on Mark's side from the beginning. For me, the swim just seems way too short relative to the other parts of the Tri. What would you do differently?: Draft Mark. Transition 1
Comments: Nothing in particular slowed me down, just really everything. My T1's are too complicated. But, I did manage to get my garmin on my wrist and start it at the right time. What would you do differently?: I don't know, but other people's transitions were a full minute faster than mine. Bike
Comments: road was wet as it just stopped raining. Other than that- pretty roads, lots of shifting for the constant ups and downs, and a nice course. Transition 2
Comments: Rack bike, Sit down, remove cycling shoes, put on sneakers, remove helmet, remove gloves, drink some water. That all just takes me time. What would you do differently?: I guess I need to practice Run
Comments: My calves were cramping up during the cycle, so no surprise that as soon as I started running they were in knots. I had to stop twice to stretch and massage them, and it took the better part of a half mile before they loosened up. That cost me perhaps 30 seconds of stopping, plus some slow running at the beginning. What would you do differently?: not ride hard the two days prior to the race. Post race
Warm down: Drank water. Had a veggie burger. What limited your ability to perform faster: Tuesday and Wednesday hard bike rides. Cramping calves. Transition times. Event comments: Hey- this was just a casual club tri. But, given that it was a paltry $5 to enter, Mark and Bob did a nice job having everything organized. It was BYOB on the drinks, but since the run came back to the transition area after 1 mile, you could grab a drink. There was no road marking or police escort through intersections, but the rural roads weren't very crowded and all was fine. They did organize some volunteers to write down times and a kayak spotter for the swim. The environment and scenery couldn't be beat. Transition and BBQ was in a nice shady grassy area right by Stockbridge Bowl (a lake). Weather, temperature, water temp- all worked out great. As a practice event- couldn't have been better! The only warmup I did was to swim a hundred yards or so over to the deep water start area.
