Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:45. Got a got a shower, ate some PB & honey toast. Checked the water quality website....still "red". Got the gear together and headed out with my sister-in-law.
Event warmup:

I was in the last wave so there wasn't much I could do but wait....
Swim
  • 21m
  • 984 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Boy, was that water warm! No way I would have wanted to be in a wetsuit in those temps. I've gotten a lot better at dealing with the "washing machine effect". I realize other people are going to run into me and I'm going to run into them. Just going to have to deal with it. Did my best to find open water and relax. I actually passed a couple people from the previous wave. Whoda thought? Sighting was a little better this time.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on sighting.
Transition 1
  • 04m 24s
Comments:

Transitions way too slow.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more.
Bike
  • 49m 58s
  • 14.91 miles
  • 17.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike. Pushed it a little, but not too hard. Drank some Gatorade, water and shot bloks. Another rider went down right in front of me at the U-turn at transition. He jumped right up and looked o.k.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on getting faster.
Transition 2
  • 03m 11s
Comments:

Did I mention I need to work on transitions?
What would you do differently?:

See above
Run
  • 33m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good getting off the bike and in the shaded portion of the run. Once I came out of the shade I really slowed down because of the heat.
What would you do differently?:

More time out in the sun.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, gatorade and walk around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat and poor transitions.

Event comments:

What a differnce a couple of weeks makes. After a tough day at Eagleman I was hoping to redeem myself. This was the third year in a row that I've done this race with extended family and we always have a great time. I'm not sure you can find a better race for beginners!

Finished 44/81 in AG, solid MOP. For someone who has always been BOP, I couldn't be happier.
Got to meet Newbz and said hi to Silver Bullet as I ran by in T2.

It was a great day!
