Comments: Started out way too fast but didn't know it. I felt like I was challenging myself and kept saying over and over again, "If I can only catch my breath, I'll be alright." Having been at the elevation for only two days, I never caught my breath. I just kept getting slower and slower and slower. Finished with a heaving chest and mild headache. What would you do differently?: I'd like to say I'd take the time to get acclimated, but that would have taken too long. This was just a fun option to another run around Ft. Robinson...and another T-shirt :) However, this is the slowest 5k time of the season...except the last run of my first duathlon. I know that I'm faster than this...or at least I hope I am faster than this. Post race
Warm down: Found some shade and just breathed for a while. Grabbed some post-race food and drink and went home. What limited your ability to perform faster: The altitude and the 20 pounds that just keeps hanging on. Last updated: 2005-07-14 12:00 AM

Woke up about 2 hours before the race. Had half a peanut butter sandwich and some water. That was it. Should have had my PowerBar an hour before, but this was a spur-of-the-moment thing done while on vacation.
Ran a mile or so to loosen up and get a good sweat going. Followed that with some accelerations.
