Total Time = 1h 10m 15s
Overall Rank = 167/415
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

I got up at 6 am and left Ocean City with the family. On the way I drank a mix of Endurox, milk, chocolate, yogurt and peanut butter-this tastes better than it sounds. I did some pre race massage with my tp massage ball kit.
Event warmup:

I thought I left enough time to get there, but I forgot about the .7 mile walk from the parking lot to the transition area. I ran into Greg(mattmaxmick). Then I did about a 4 or 5 minute swim. I forgot to eat the bagle I made(this turned out to be a big mistake). I ate a powergel about 20 minutes before the start.
Swim
  • 05m 43s
  • 450 yards
  • 01m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

I got in front and went like a bat at of hell to make up some time on the others in my age group. I figured I could go pretty hard to place in the top 10 in the swim.
What would you do differently?:

go faster next time!
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

After 3 years, I still stink at transition. I used to go slow so I could let my hr drop. I no longer wear a hr monitor in short races, so I guess I can't use this excuse any more.
What would you do differently?:

run faster through transiton.
Bike
  • 30m 18s
  • 11 miles
  • 21.78 mile/hr
Comments:

I was very pleased with my bike split. My goal was to hit 21.5 avg by September. I pushed hard in order to catch my buddy Greg(mattmaxmick), but I never saw him.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to mount my bike while my shoes are already in the pedals.
Transition 2
  • 02m 20s
Comments:

Again what can I say, I still suck at transitions after 3+ years. Maybe I should get some triathlon bike shoes with one strap, so I can get my feet out easier to ride with feet on top of my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Eat more before the next race. I was pretty empty when I got off the bike.
Run
  • 29m
  • 3.2 miles
  • 09m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

My tank was near empty when I started this run. I knew this about a half mile into the run. By the first mile my split was 9:36. I definitely knew I had no gas left. I knew not eating the bagel I made that morining would come back to burn me, and it did! My dreams of running a sub 8 min mile went down the tubes.
What would you do differently?:

DON"T SKIP THE BAGEL NEXT TIME!! Do more brick workouts before my next sprint race.
Post race
Warm down:

nothing. I was pretty toasted after the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not eating enough bdfore the race, and not doing enough brick workouts.

Event comments:

Overall, I was happy with my results, escpecially since I exceeded my goal of hitting 21.5 mph on the bike. The best part was meeting other BT'ers Kleinrider, Dontracy, Claudia and my friend Mattmaxmick. I would highly recommend this race to everyone.

Nice job. A couple things:

Don't worry about learning to mount your bike with your shoes already clipped in. This gets you on your bike 10 seconds before me and costs you 15 seconds as you weave down the road fumbling to get your feet in. On the other hand, you save time by pulling your feet out at the end of the bike and running through transition in bare feet.

Also (and I hate to tell you this), the bike averages in the results are a little high. The bike wasn't 11 miles.

BTW, I bike through Downingtown all the time. My brother in law lives in Guthriesville. Did you do the Good Neighbor Day race?

No, but my wife did.  I live up the road in Uwchlan.  Most of my rides are on rte 282 through G-ville and Glenmore.  I thought you lived in NY?  If you live in the D-town area, maybe you should join Greg(matmaxmick) and me for a group ride/run.
