Swim
Comments: Well this was a pretty good swim for the most part, minus one or two exceptions. First off my wave was quite the mixture of first timers and experienced athletes. I somehow managed to draft off of every first timer in the group. Well one particular person thought that the swim leg of a tri is a 1500m medly race.....breast stroke to back stroke to freestyle to sidestroke. And repeat. This happened up until about halfway through the lap when I was able to locate a little bit of open water and actually find a rhythm, I got a little excited and thought that I might be able to finish up well, but alas that dream was dashed.....another beginner swimmer doing his best impression of Charlie Brown's zig zag stripe....back and forth back and forth, I was getting seasick just watching him...... What would you do differently?: Go to the front of the pack and risk being swam over jsut to give myself some space! Transition 1
Comments: transition went well, suit did get a little stuck but no biggie! What would you do differently?: nothing-at least that I can think of now! Bike
Comments: Well this bike ride was one of my better ones! I went out hard and stayed that way until the finish. The only problem I really encountered was a few cars on the course that made me slow down, and a few of the sharp turns which were a little wet...but all in all, it was not bad! Pretty happy with this bike ride What would you do differently?: Learn to climb hills better and get faster Transition 2
What would you do differently?: pretty good overall Run
Comments: Well I thought I had entered an exterra event when I got about halfway through the run, mud, mud, a little straw, and more mud. I was really surprised how much running through that crap can take it out of you! So my plan from the beginning was to go out hard for the first mile and get myself into a faster cadence and rhythm, which worked. I ended up getting some cramps in my side which hindered performance. I should have DTFU-ed and just gone harder because I missed placing by 50 seconds..... What would you do differently?: continue to work on run training a lot! (and tell my brain to shut up) Post race
Warm down: Walked around a little, talked with the other Donks, got some food and watched the oly people make the turn on the run course What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of mental discipline and lack of hill bike training and run training! Last updated: 2010-01-18 12:00 AM

Woke up nice and early, had a bagel and some gatorade, packed up the car and headed on out! Stopped off at a Speedway on the way for some coffee and redbull and was on the road again
Set up transition, went for a little jog to warm the 'ol legs up and donned the wetsuit. Talked with Dave, Tammy, Jim, Kim, and all the other Donks then headed on down to the beach. Swam a bit, took care of "business" and waited till my wave went off!
