Total Time = 1h 12m 40s
Overall Rank = 16/196

Age Group Rank = 5/27
Pre-race routine:

I ate dinner driving to the site at about 5:00 pm. This was way too early. I should have eaten a late pasta dinner.

The drive was longer than I thought and I got to the site way too late that evening (10:00 pm) which means I only ended up with 4.5 hours of sleep.

I hadn't ridden my bike since Eagleman two weeks prior to the race. I didn't have my bike legs.
Event warmup:

I rode my bike up the first hill. I could tell I didn't have my bike legs.
Swim
  • 12m 12s
  • 900 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt OK on the swim, but I had a little trouble going straight. I think there was a little current. My arms and shoulders were tired during the swim. Need to continue to work on my stroke. I didn't swim much since Eagleman.
What would you do differently?:

Get in the water more frequently the two weeks prior to the race.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Bike
  • 37m 10s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 20.02 mile/hr
Comments:

I dropped my chain up the first big hill and was able to get it back on, but I accidentally put my back chain in a hard gear (due to not riding recently) and had to turn around and let 5 people pass me as I tried the hill again.
What would you do differently?:

Ride bike much more in couple weeks prior to race. Realize the whole way out is uphill and get my cadence into a more normal range.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 21m 50s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was hard as I didn't feel great due to lack of recovery from Eagleman. I started out pretty slow, but after a mile or so I put my new running technique to use and was able to pull away from a couple people. I was able to sprint the last 150 yards and pass someone who had passed me early in the run at a very strong pace.
What would you do differently?:

Cool myself down more.

Performance: Bad
Wind: Little
Course: Slight uphill all the way out after a large first hill. It is downhill almost the entire way back except for the final hill. The outhill is deceiving as it looks like you are going downhill, but you are actually going uphill. This caused me to be in a much bigger gear and low cadence on the way out and I didn't have my legs out or back. I was resting my legs frequently
