Pre-race routine:

Skipped normal prerace routine due to stomach flu.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 21h 33m
  • 1500 meters
  • 1h 26m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

Basically found a person to swim beside, then just matched his stroke and stayed with him. I could have caught a fast swimmer or a slow swimmer, but I didn't care. I did this so I didn't have to work very hard or do any sighting. T1 time included in swim. Swim exit was a long way from the bike entrance.
What would you do differently?:

Feel better and put forth more of an effort.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Went fairly well. No surprises.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 13s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.09 mile/hr
Comments:

Very cautious about drafting, rode conservatively. T2 is included in bike time.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

First time using Yank speed shoe laces, really worked out well.
Run
  • 44m 2s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

Run felt okay, I concentrated on going a slower consitant pace with no stopping, slowed at water stations for drink but did not come to a stop. Stomach was feeling better now than before.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stomach flu

Event comments:

Overall I was pleased with this race. Although I wasn't feeling good, I still did it and finished. I'm happy that I was able to overcome the negative thoughts I was having, and complete the race no matter what.

Great race, especially with the flu!  I grew up across the lake in Port Huron, but now I'm living in Philadelphia.  I would like to do a race that my family could watch and this one sounds like a great race.  Was the swim in Lake Huron or was it an inland lake/pond/river?

It was in Lake Huron, and a pleasant swim at that.  Sarnia race is noted for the best post race grub around.  I think it would be fun to watch as well.
