Comments: I did better than I did at Stumpy Creek in terms of placement so I guess I've picked up some speed over the past month and a half. Either that or everyone else got slower! I did better with holding a line so sighting was easier. First race in saltwater so getting used to the salty mouth wasn't that pleasant. What would you do differently?: Keep training. Transition 1
Comments: Finally had a good T1. Could have shaved a couple of seconds off. What would you do differently?: Put helmet on last. Bike
Comments: My first time on the course and it cost me some skin. Going into the first corner coming off the bridge I locked the back end of the bike up trying to slow down since there were two guys side by side in the turn and I couldn't get around. As I tried to correct I hit hit a section of bad pavement and my right had slid of my horn. So there I was, in a skid, one hand of the bike, totally off balance. I somehow managed to get m left foot unclipped and on the ground. I used it to keep my upright for a little bit. But then the inevitable happened and I went down on my left side. I would love to have some video of the wreck because I ended up laying on my right side with that foot still clipped in. I guess I had a sweet flip in there somewhere. Anyway, I got my right foot unclipped and tried to gather my wits. Got back on the bike and took off again. Only now I had a sore knee and my elbow hurt too much to ride in the aerobars. The wreck probably cost me a minute of time but it's really hard to say since everything seemed like it was happening so fast. I was mentally out of it after that so it was a tough battle to the end. I was hoping to average between 22 and 23 but ended up a little over 21. What would you do differently?: Not wreck! Transition 2
Comments: Nothing special here. Ran while putting on my number belt and Garmin. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: My sinus congestion was making it tough to breath properly. I spent most of the race trying to control my breathing. Felt like I couldn't take a good breath. I still ran a decent pace but was really hoping to break into the 22's this race. Felt better on the last 1/2 mile and picked up the pace some. Finished strong. What would you do differently?: Not get a cold with lingering congestion. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed some water and packed up my stuff. Went back to the finish to wait for my wife who started 20 minutes after me. What limited your ability to perform faster: Slow swimmer, bike crash and congestion! I love excuses! Last updated: 2009-12-06 12:00 AM
