this is the same reply i posted on ST,

All,

I pulled my post last night, as after reading some things, and then checking my bike split this year from last year, it didn;t add up on my end either (i thought i had rode 2:28 last year, not :38). I have rode 2:27 or 8 before, and rode this course in 2:18 earlier in the week (minus the in and out of the parking lot).

I wanted to check my watch splits before getting into a match, and did so a few minutes ago after driving home (thanks sean and shanks for the clarification there).

My watch showed lap one of the bike appox 13min fast (from my quick mental math), which means i missed the out and back on the first loop, and did what every race director says not to do, rely on the people in front of you to know the course. I should have paid more attention, i have done this race before.
that would also put my bike time MUCH more in line with where i have been in the past this year.

FWIW that means i stopped on MY FIRST time out, i was on the side of the road for almost 30 sec exactly.
I;ve zoned out in races before and blown past turns

I've emailed shannon (the RD), and Dan on here, and explained this as well, and asked to be pulled from the results.

It was an honest mistake, and i apologize for that (and to anyones race this hurt). I know that does nothing to fix things, but this was in no way shape or form done to harm anyone elses day.

The one thing i do ask, is that in the future, if someone has an issue, please just come to me with it. I'd have easily just checked my watch after the finish and handed over teh award and talked to shannon, it would have been a lot easier/less of a mess than posting on here like this (i understand it was started as an honest question, but did not end that way). I do coach for a living, and a lot of my athletes read this forum, something like that thread can potentially wreck a career over a simple mistake.

Steve, if you read this, send me your address, i have an award for you (i gave the hammer gel/heed away to friends that needed it, but have the award).

Lastly, the swim time is correct, and i will be back to race next year and hopefully get a good race in with steve and ben (and whomever was out there as well). I'll gladly wear a hot pink swim cap, or some form of GPS if anyone cares to dispute the swim times.

thanks for taking the time to read this,

David

Sorry David, it just doesn't add up.  I am new here but I have followed your postings on Slowtwitch for years. I agree with Bryan, your workout claims never meshed with you race results. Inconsistencys everywhere.

Approaching 5 watts/kilo and 50's on the 50sec coming in under 30sec is pro level stuff.  I am faster than you in all 3 disciplines but my workout numbers do not approach yours. I think everything has been a house of cards and it is falling down.

I still like you. Some people may dislike you even more for the disconnect between all the awesome advice you have given here and what you likely tried to pull off in you last race, but I am not one of them. I think you should step back, take a deep breath and evaluate your commitement and involvement to this sport.

Time to figure out what is really important in life. And by the way, you can be a successful coach and not be the greatest athlete. You clearly know enough to help others on their journey. I'm afraid the only way to really do that at this point is to learn from your mistake and move on. If you continue to post denials with no further information to support your claims, you are essentially digging yourself a bigger hole. It's a tough pill to swallow right now, but truly the only way to redemption.

Your friend,
Dave Luscan

Perhaps this bothers me less since I'm not a pro, but who cares? You've been very nice to me in my short time here, you seem to be incredibly knowledgeable and you still had a pretty fast race despite the truncated version of it.

If you truly went out to deceive the race, well you learned your lesson. This doesn't invalidate your knowledge or your ability to perform at your level and I'm wiling to bet that one way or the other, you'll be coming out fast as all hell next time.

Good job owning up to the mistakes. That's gotta be hard to do.

David,

I like everything about you, including the pace booty.

I know absolutely nothing about the situation save from what you and Steve publicly posted on ST (and you, here).

From what I do know of you, you're a lot more honest, but on a practical level, an awful lot smarter than to a) try to cut a course, or b) cover up a mistake when you realized it.

It's time to call this subject closed.

newbz has done the right thing and asked the RD to DQ him. The race results are now accurate and newbz has owned up to a mistake. Further discussion would not serve any worthwhile purpose.

For those of you with questions about newbz abilities, there's a simple test: watch his race results.

For those of you who question his ethics, I would remind you that this is not the place to air personal grievances.
