honestly its not that bad....my last year half iron had winds of 25 mph and gusts 30+....i rode with a 60 mm front and disc cover rear....had no issues....i was 6'0 173 at the time of the race.  then again i don't ride carbon wheels on daily basis, they are only icing on the cake...

as far as tubes / tires....for racing or for riding?

list of fastest tires....you want latex tubes to go with those.

rxman - 2010-10-13 9:43 PM I live in the northern Texas panhandle. Lots of wind here too. I was basically set to go 80/80 til you came along. HA! New subject. What recommendations for tires and tubes? I'll probably just order online. For tubes, I'll need something that can fit with the new wheels or valve extensions? For tires, I'm looking for a good tire for everyday training as well as racing. I'm close to getting a really nice setup. Thanks again!!

I'm very happy with my S80 combo - the come with valve extenders.

If these are race-only wheels, get latext tubes.  It's one of the best bang for your buck speed increases (by reduce rolling resistance) you can do.  If you flat you're out $10-15 though.

I know this topic is old, but I wanted to bring it up again b/c I am in the market for new wheels.  I have been looking to get a set of 808s, but I don't think the bank account (wife) is going to allow it.  My question is for someone who is 150-155# who avgs. ~21.5 mph over a 45k course, what is going to be my best bet?  I live in central NC, most rides are rolling hills, not many flats.  But I do a lot of my racing at the coast.  I have heard that the SRAMs are a on the heavier side, is this going to hurt me a lot on the rolling hills?  I do not want to limit myself with the set of wheels I get.  s60/s60? s60/s80, s80/s80?  If not SRAM, does anyone have any other suggestions for wheels?  Thanks.

I like S80 in the front, disk cover on the back...then save your money and get a powertap wheel (with a disc cover) as fast as you can.  For most of us the real ROI is in improving the engine!
