Swim
Comments: Decent swim. It was a bit hectic for first 200m or so. Tried to swim steady, but a lot of people crawling all over the place. Was a bit boxed in for a while, but managed to find 1 or 2 people my pace, and just dropped behing them to draft. So several HUGE jellyfish the size of a basketball, but managed to avoid them. Ended up swimming looking forward a lot to try and site the jellyfish, which surely slowed me down. Right hand a bit cramped (claw?) towards the end. Strange as I head the same sensation with my right hand last year. What would you do differently?: Not much... pretty happy with 1:05. Would like to get under 1hour next year, so have my work cut out for me. Transition 1
Comments: Decent transition. Had my Orca 226 top on tech bottom on under the wetsuit so transition was a breeze. Suntan lotion and assos cream applied. Bike
Comments: Never felt good on the bike... just felt weak, just as I did over the past few weeks. Maybe still a bit sick. Given this, I just went a pace I was comfortable with and saved the legs for the bike. Did not try and push to my goal pace of 32kph. Had 1 Infinit Custom formula every hour for a total of 6. Did not drink for 1st 15min, or last 15mins in order to let the stomach settle. What would you do differently?: Hopefully go faster next time!! But today I did not have it in me! Transition 2
Comments: Decent transition, but took my time. Changed into Orca 226 fleece lined short. More suntan cream and went to the bathroom. New Balance 905. Run
Comments: Had 1 Roctane 30min in, than another every 40-45mins with water. Had High5 drink when not taking a gel, as long as it was not whithin 10min of last gel. Wish they had coke, as I planned on taking that for the last 1.5 hours. Good run in general and passed a ton of people (the usual bike hammerheads that have nothing left for the run). Should have pushed the pace more as I felt great even at the end. 20min faster run then last year, so I can't complain. Chi Running definiely gets credit for the run improvement. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Sickness the week before the race left my legs tired and weak. Slowed me down big time on the bike. Really expected my bike split to by 30min faster. Last updated: 2009-10-21 12:00 AM
