So after the wreck I've been having a lot of dizziness.  If I turn my head a certain way the room literally spins (and my eyes start darting around trying to make sense of it all).  Crappy feeling.

From everything I've read dizziness is normal after a concussion (even this type of "positional vertigo") but I'm wondering when to get worried.  Anyone have any experience with this?

They did a CT scan to rule out "bleeding brain" but would they have been looking for anything else on the CT? In other words, if the CT was clean is there nothing to worry about?

My bil was in a wreck and had blurred vision/dizziness for about six months. Dizziness wasn't as bad and was basically over after a few weeks.

I got a concussion a while ago (completely tri unrelated- I lost consciousness and didn't have a soft landing.  Then did it two more times just for good measure), and it messes with you for a while.  The vertigo went away after a day, but I was nauseous for a few days after that, and then felt just SLOW for over a week.  My job requires me to stay fairly sharp and I would find myself just feeling stupid, not being able to solve the same math problems or even construct a sentence.  That was the worst for me.  A closed head injury isn't something you'll recover from instantly.  You'll feel crappy for a week or so.

I had a bad wreck in July and suffered a concussion.  I had headaches and dizziness and ended up having to take 3 days off of work because I couldn't concentrate or deal with the bright lights.

Just please take it easy for a while.  Once you feel 100%, take it easy a while longer.  It's not worth messing around with.

It probably takes 3 weeks to really get back to what feels normal.  The dizziness unfortunately can go on for a really long time.

Be careful not to put yourself in a position for a second wreck at least for a week.  Preferentially 6 weeks.

Thanks for the info.  It's a little bit better this AM.  Last night I'd wake up and literally grab the bed because the room was spinning around.  A horrible feeling.

And you're right about not being able to concentrate.  I think every word on this page is highlighted in red.  I hope I get them all fixed before hitting enter.

I will be off the bike for a while.  I cannot imagine trying to balance on a bike right now.

Seriously, wait two weeks after the last remnants of headache and diziness have gone away before doing any sort of exercise.

I've had several concussion's (that's another story). It generally has taken me two weeks to get rid of the headache and dizziness. Even going for a fast walk seemed to make it worse. The spacey not able to focus feeling has taken about six weeks to subside. Take it easy or you will just prolong the recovery.

Read this article that recently ran in the Denver Post regarding concussions.  Although it talks about youth sports, I think there is some good information that can be applied to all atheletes, regardless of the sport or age.

See if there is a specialist at your nearest sports medicie center. Here in Pittsburgh we have a concussion center at the university sports medicine center.

The dizziness you describe after a concussion is not NORMAL...but it may be common. YOu are describing true vertigo which can be due to physical damage to the structures taht cotrol balance, not just the concussion itself. A plain CT scan will ot show these structures in detail unless specifically requested in the test.

Go to your doctor, the ER or a specialist and let them know your symptoms specifically. This is not normal and you need to know how to deal with it if the vertigo does not resolve (there are specific therapies & exercises for this).

In my "day job" I work as an ER doc...so this is pretty routine for me...you don't have to deal with this by yourself or an internet forum. Get medical help.

It has gotten better over the last few days (no more random dizziness, now only when I get up or lay down quickly) but I have also decided that I am going to see my GP.  I'm going to ask him to refer me to someone who specializes in this.  It's VERY annoying and quite frankly exhausting.
