Hey all. If anyone is doing this race next Sunday and hasn't seen the course, be ready. The website says its a flat course... flat is the last word I would use to describe it. I went down today to ride, and its up-down-up-down. Also, when you head out on the run, its a steep decent to start followed by an equally steep hill. Just an FYI.-scott

Thanks for the heads up. Are any of the bike ascents very sustained? Or are the fairly short hills?

they are for the most part short.  there were a few of those "false flats" that are semi-extended, but nothing that i would say is "sustained."  I assume you'll be there?

Yup, I'll be there. It'll be my first race.

I don't worry too much about short hills or sustained inclines, but long, steep hills tend to burn me out. I can deal with some rollers.

Have you taken a dip in the lake yet? How's the water?

Thanks for the scouting report.

Thanks for the info -- I'll be there, it's my first tri. I live and train in C-ville, so hopefully I'm ready for the hills.

The lake is no swimming at all times, so I wasn't able to get in. However, the races website lists is as 84 degrees (which is pretty close to what most indoor pools are kept at i think) as of 7/20. I don't think its rained much since then, so chances are its still pretty close to that.

I heard a lot of people say that! I'm used to hilly in training, but the course was tough -- "technical" might be a good word to describe it. Fast corners, short and choppy ups and downs. You couldn't relax -- had to be thinking ahead the whole time. I had a bike computer snafu during the ride, but I'm thinking I did about 18 MPH for the bike leg. The worst part was the gravel at the start and finish! Major pucker factor for me, to be sure!

I'm looking forward to seeing the results broken down by leg and age group. I know I got 14/24 overall in the 45-49 male group -- not bad for my first time.

kenail, good race.  I didnt stick around long enough to see the posted results.  I started feeling very crappy and wanted to get home.  Anxious to see final results posted tomorrow night.

Gotta agree with you on the run -- that was a tough course, and the heavy rain the night before didn't make it any easier. Still, looks like you kicked tail on it.

I'll be posting a race report after I look at the official split times.

Yep it was a tough run course. I kind of liked it though, of course I do a lot of trail running, so I would not have minded if it was rougher. I drove over the bike course on Saturday and was expecting it to be a lot worse than it was. I only ended up in the little ring once (twice if you count the gravel climb up to the dismount line)

What killed me was that HOT water. My pool is usually about 79-81 degrees. I felt like I was being boiled.

All in all, I thought it was a very good event.
