Does anyone know of a good Sprint Tri happening around April ??   Can't find anything on Trifind or anywhere else really....Throught I would try the forum first before scouring the Internet.  I am in St. Peters but just looking for something in MO. (can be anywhere in the State).

I don't know of any in the STL proper, but I think there is one beginning of May in Columbia (Race for Sight). They may even hold a du before that. Check out UltraMAx's website. They sponsor a lot of races in MO.

Race for the Sight is now called the Trizzou and is (I think) the first Sunday in May.  The bike course has a hill that you'll do twice that's a real beast, but you get to swim in Mizzou's competition pool. There's a sprint with a lake swim in mid May in Carlyle, IL, about 50 miles east of St. Louis.  Sometime in June, the St. Peters Rec Plex also has one.

There's a sprint in Ste. Genevieve, MO, in mid-May.

I know you are looking for early season, but if you are looking for an easy 1st triathlon I would suggest the Wood River Triathlon. The swim is about 4 feet deep the entire time in a pool, and the bike and run are on the same very flat 2 mile loop. I think its 450 yard swim, 12 mile bike (6 loops) and 4 mile run (2 loops).

This was my first, and it gave me a ton of confidence for my others.

It is generally around mid August.

Sullivan was my first tri, great event, even though the water temp was @ your normal bathtub.  I am a part time coordinator for Ultramax, TriZou is a very good tri, and it also has a short course duathlon attached to it now called DuZou.   The other Duathlon Ultramax puts on is MaxTrax and it is in April, there are two course length options there.

I strongly recommend Trizzou in May.  It's a sprint with a big race feel.  Wide variety of athletes from beginners to pros.  The ultramax crew does a great job with all of their races.  This year will be my 4th year in a row.  The course itself is a great intro to tri.  Easy pool swim(enormous lanes), short but challenging bike and flat confidence building 3 mile run course.  Great way to start the season.

Signing up for Trizou this weekend....Good reason to visit my school and start the year.  Thanks for the suggestions.  Has anyone done the ST.Peters Tri ???   Looking for comments on how it is run and if it is worth doing.

Yes. St. Peter's is well worth doing. Well run. Well organized. A nice mix of newbies and competitors, but not highly competitive. The earlier you sign up, the earlier start time you'll get (that's how its been done in the past) so if you want to sleep in, sign up a bit later!

I did the TriZou last year and it was great.  It was my first.  Like stated above, there are racers from beginers to pros.  After the race I met and talked with Pip Taylor for awhile.  Very nice women.

I also did the St Peters Tri and felt it was run smooth as well.  Great group of people running the event and competing.

I am competing in the Sullivan Tri this year with a friend who is also doing it and it will be her first tri.

I am also in the St Peters/St Charles area.

They have the bike course is posted on the website now.  Looks like 2 loops around Forest Park on the bike path?!  Not sure how that'll work out w/ some many folks that use that trail/path.

If they have it blocked off it should be fine.  I did a road race there a few weekends ago and there were 75 people in my heat and it worked well as long as it was organised right..  I plan on being there. Hope it goes well
