Total Time = 1h 22m 44s
Overall Rank = 192/390
Age Group = Male 30-34
Age Group Rank = 27/45
Event warmup:

Probably swam about 100m out to the first buoy and back.
Swim
  • 16m 57s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 16s / 100 meters
Comments:

What a massive wave of 123 males all slogging it out to get to the buoy first. I kept swimming into people, got kicked in the face etc etc. It took me about 250m before I was out on my own and could get into a rhythm.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe stick to the side a little more at the start.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

Well today I thought I would get my HRM on and see how it went. So took a little time getting my watch on, really wasn't in a rush, I am not a front runner so no need to get a move on.
Bike
  • 39m 45s
  • 21.7 kms
  • 32.75 km/hr
Comments:

The wind had picked up a little in the last 2 laps, not a lot but enough to knock my average down by nearly a whole 1km/hr. I was averaging 33.5 km/hr for the first 2 laps. Oh and I HATED the green zone, it seemed every lap I got stuck behind some old woman doing 20 km/hr. I was patient and polite but boy was it annoying!
What would you do differently?:

Still working on my strength in the legs.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Some people are stupid and ignorant. I came back into transition to find another bike in my spot. Fortunately somebody else was there to help me move their bloody bike out of the way. Still a good transition time considering.
What would you do differently?:

Throw their bike in the river! Just kidding...........maybe.
Run
  • 23m 35s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 43s  min/km
Comments:

I made sure I was maintaining a 4:45 avg pace or better, having the HRM on was certainly helping.
What would you do differently?:

Currently doing some speed work in my training so it will pick in time but my focus is on Busso.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Slow and stupid people. Otherwise I am happy with my performance as this is only like a 'C' race, something to do at the end of a recovery week.

Event comments:

A good venue but planning on sticking to OD and long course next season so won't be back for a few years.

agh, bike in your spot, has happened to me and it's so frustrating, yep, next time dump it in the lake, if only that was allowed!  Good luck for the rest of the Busso build up.

Awesome race Sean - your bike is always strong and great to see the gains you're making on the run starting to pay off.
