Hello

Anyone else doing one of these races this year?  30 April

Looks  like there will be a change in the course to keep from crossing Hwy 17 so many times.

Swim (gator lake) and then T-1-

Ride & T-2 will be over at Wando High School with the run in the Carolina Park right around Wando HS.

Two separate Transitions.

I will be doing the Sprint Race

Kevin

I'm likely to do the Half, but not definite yet.

I don't see course maps on the site, though I did hear that the bike course was changed.  Have you seen maps?

Hi Kevin,

Not participating, but I just signed up to volunteer at this tri. And I just biked the run course this morning and saw 2 bald eagles!

Here is a link to the page with the maps. I'm just assuming that it's allowed here in the forums to link to an outside place... right?

ETA: Sorry, I just realized the link to the bike map doesn't work. It says that the bike course is being approved.

I just signed up for the Half and it will be my first HIM.  I did the Sprint last year and I loved the event.

I'm doing the Half. It was my first HIM and didn't go as well as I had planned. I'm returning for redemption.

Don't sweat the gators. They are more afraid of you than you are of them.

There is nothing at all to worry about.  The 'gator' thing was more of a joke than a serious threat last year, though a local paper tried to make it out as something more.  They gotta sell papers...  Really, the last place you'll find an alligator is in a lake with 500 people thrashing their way through a HIM swim.

I'm signed up for the HIM this year, and hoping I can actually run it (without a cracked hip).

Yes, this! It's a fairly good-sized lake, and any alligator living in it will find a way to avoid all the commotion. Smile

They had a company named "Gator Gitter" check out the lake for about 2 weeks before the race. I was told he didn't catch a single gator. I would take swimming with gators over swimming with snakes any day.

Hello

Is everyone ready to race?

The T-1 & T-2 being in different locations may be a huge cluster.  No place to park at T-2

I don't know about 'ready to race' (I'm still recovering from my 'A' race 10 days ago), but I'll be there!  I don't think that the two different transition areas will be awful.  But I'm not in a hurry to leave after the race, so that probably helps.  I can't get there until late Friday night, so I sure hope it isn't too bad because I've only got Saturday morning to figure it out...

Good luck to all racers!

I'm going down Wed. I am using the "work excuse and lack of time" as being the reason for not being ready. I've been looking forward to redeeming  myself after last years Fail.

I did a different long course event (Cozumel) and really liked the the 2 transition areas. With good planning I think it will go really smooth. There is an enthusiastic group of organizers who want to make this a premier event. I'm really interested in seeing what the expo is like.

Good luck and safe travel to everybody.

Does anyone know the water temperature?  If not what was it last year? Thanks!

Last year it was 76 degrees. I don't know what it is this year but I would expect it might be a little cooler this year. Virtually everybody wore a wetsuit in the 1/2 last year and I would encourage everyone to wear one. They had wetsuit strippers but I can remove mine faster on my own.

My husband is doing the half and I am doing the sprint.  He has a wetsuit and I do not.  Will it be too cold to swim under 70-75

Hello

Last year I wore my wet-suit and plenty of people did not wear one.

I have been swimming in my neighborhood outdoor pool for the last week and the temperature has gone up a good bit.

I am thinking we are going to be in for a great race day.  I live about 5 miles from race site so if anyone has questions just ask.

Last year I did the sprint and did not have a wetsuit.  I was very comfortable and didn't have any problems with the temperature.  This year I'm doing the half so I bought one but it really is just for the extra buoyancy.

It won't be too cold to swim without one.

Peter is right (as usual):  the day will be a little faster with than without, but you'll have a great time either way.

I am trying to figure out just exactly where T2 is located in Carolina Park. The online map is not very descriptive. Can anyone provide more detail about T2? It looks like it is off of airport road? Is it a park of some kind? Thanks!

Hello

I live here in Mt P so I scouted the T-2 location last weekend on my ride.

You turn off Hwy 17 heading to the East Cooper Airport.  The new park is past the intersection of Stockdale Road which is the main road for the run.  One thing interesting about the East Cooper Airport road is that there are  speed bumps  across the road to stop kids from drag racing.  The speed bumps are made with 8 or 10  small rows of concrete raised up to make noise when you speed across them.

This is my wife's first race this weekend and she is stressing about her part (run) of Tigers 81 relay team. I told her I should be at T-2 about an hour after I go in the water for the swim-bike.  It will be fun

Hello

The park for T-2 is brand new and not really open to the public yet.  the parking lot is in place but the athletic fields are not complete.  It looked very soggy last weekend.

Better bring some bug spray.

Did the race last year.  Good luck to everyone.  Don't forget the bug spray. No-seeums were horrible.
