I'm new to power training on the bike, but I've used HR a lot in the past. I did my power tests - 30 minute average 210, 3 minute average 265. That gives me about 200 for my CP. My HR test for the bike gave me 163 as LTHR.

A recent ride (trainer) was supposed to be Z2. I forget the exact numbers - don't have my log book handy - but Z2 for power (according to Jorge's suggested zones) is very low Z1 for HR. Z2 by HR gives me nearly Z5 for power.

Did I screw up on my testing?

Go by power or HR not both.

Since you invested in power stick with that and observe over time how your HR responds for different watts and zones.

I've been training with power since 2006 and don't even wear my HR strap any more...just go with power and RPE.

Thanks, Kathy. I'll be doing another test in about a month to see how all things progress. I guess that's the true test, right? It just seems odd to see the Z2 power number vs. HR and an RPE that feels REALLY low. I feel like I'm slacking. 8^(

zones are virtually % so usually when i am riding at 80-85% of ftp it corresponds to z1 via HR....BUT if i continue to ride at say 85% for 2 hrs maybe hit 2.5 hrs rest assured my HR will be starting to climb and start hitting z3.

and just like kathy is saying, stay with power meter forget HR....

Power it is. It would seem the HR lag is attracting my attention more than it should. Thanks, trix. And by the way, where do you find those fantastic mountain views in Miami?
