Anyone else going to run this? Will be my first 1/2, and is a bit of a celebration for me as it marks 1 year to the day I got off the couch and started getting healthy.

Hey Mike, I'm not signed yet but plan on doing it as part of a Grand Prix Series. They had problems the first year (active.com...reviews) Shirts, medals, water and food were in short supply ...I hope they've fixed the food thing because New Bedford puts on a feast. Then again I just want to make it to the start line.....

Hope to see you there....I just want to make the finish

Didn't see the reviews, but without all those things, it will be like my long training runs. I have none of those things, either .

A big section of that is part of a standard run I do out of the Quincy Y. Pretty flat course. The wind can be an issue at times on Quincy Shore Drive but I find more often than not it's coming back in the opposite direction you would be going for the race. I'm about 75% that I'll make it.

pretty pumped for this one, it will be my second half and a nice tune up for mooseman. I ran hartford last year and cramped in the last half mile, missing the 2 hour mark by 3 min! hopefully i can beat that this time!

Sadly, I won't be running. I injured my foot early last week, and I still can't move well without pain, and running on it is out of the question. . I'm going to call my doc today to get a referral to a sports med foot doc and have it checked out. I want to get it diagnosed & Healed asap so I don't mess up all of 2011. Totally, completely sucks bad as I've been making great training progress toward this race, which would have been my first HM. C'est la vie. I'll get well, and run another one sometime this year.

Mike

Depending on how long it takes you to be back up and running, the Hartford half was my first one last year and it was great experience, nice course and very well run. Great medals/finish line location, and great food/festivities post race, thinking about doing my first full there this fall!

First day back after injury and I did good until mile 10...then the wheels started to come off the bus. Got a taste of the run/walk/run as nearly everyone passed me. A good race but the hills were understated for this weak runner.

I was pumping until about mile 11 then the cramps kicked in due to the understated hills! I ended up 4 min off of the 2:03:00 min I did in Hartford last fall, with a 2:07:12 finish. Not to bad for my second long run outside this season.

This was my first half so I went out really conservative but finished really strong. My total time was 1:59:56. I set the Garmin to auto lap at one mile and those are my times below. I probably could have gone out faster and had a better time but it was fun blasting by people in the second half. I agree on the course being much more hilly than I expected. The garmin said 1560 ft ascended and much that was in a few spots. Miles 1-4.5 are essentially flat then it picks up.

 Mile pace

1, 10:10

2, 9:49

3, 9:55

4, 9:54

5, 9:52

6, 9:23

7, 9:15

8, 9:20

9, 8:44

10, 8:28

11, 8:28

12, 8:07

13, 7:41

I did the Cohasset 10K last weekend and pulled negative splits again but much more neutral this time. Unlike Quincy where I felt great I had dead legs for this one and knew it about a mile in. Really pulling this time out was all mental because physically I wasn't feeling it. Miles 3 and 4 its one hill after another. I was talking to a guy after Quincy and he said to me I prefer running Fulls to Halfs because I never feel the need to run fast. I thought that odd at the time but I totally get it now. I was happy at Quincy cruising but Cohasset I felt like I was constantly having to push it. Anyway paces below.

1, 8:24
2, 8:16
3, 8:28
4, 8:33
5, 7:57
6, 8:03
.28, 7:15
