Good morning Ghoulies!

I'm late getting in today, I had the appointment at school for my daughter. I think things went well there this morning. We came up with 2 goals for my daughter and some fun ways to get her to achieve her goals. One of the things we discussed was it seems she is very stressed about reading, and we went to take the pressure off. We want to make it fun again.

She likes to make powerpoint presentations, and she likes to teach, so the Instructional Support Teacher and her are going to put together a powerpoint on the proper parts of speech and include sentences with errors and have her teach her class the lesson. Just trying to come up with fun ways to help her learn.

Good job on finding ways to work it out. If she is okay in front of the class teaching, that is one of the biggest hurdles kids have. The reading will come.

I was getting worried that you weren't here.

I think she would LOVE to teach in front of the class. She is one of those kids that likes to be the center of attention. Even at Christmas, I wasn't sure she was ready to play the piano in front of the church, her piano teacher assured me she'd be fine. She played in front of over 100 people and didn't have a problem.

She has told us since she was in preschool that she wanted to be a teacher when she grows up. She is constantly having class at home, she makes lesson plans, tries to teach us, though we aren't always paying attention, and frequently gives us homework and grades our papers.

I'm looking now at the Nook's. The color nook has an interactive children's book feature, that will read to you and allow you to follow along on the page. I may have to do some more research on it. I saw that they have an iPad app, too. My husband is getting an iPad from work, so we may try it out and see if that works for her.

I can attest that the Nook has great Children's books features. It is also good that it is reading rather than playing a game. But it is fun, non the less.

I have always gotten my kids a little present at the end of school, a little reward for doing well throughout the year. They're never really big, just something a little special for them.

My son and I play video games together. Nintendo has a new 3D handheld gaming system out, and we were talking about getting one. I told him I would buy it for myself, I can't justify buying him a $250 toy just because, especially without getting his sister something. Now I'm thinking I could get that for him, and the color Nook for my daughter for end of school year presents. I would give them to the kids before school is out in June though.

Right now I'm at the point of WHATEVER IT TAKES to get my daughter back to where she enjoyed reading. If I have to spend $250 on a Nook for that to happen, then so be it.

She wants to please us, and her teachers. She doesn't like to do poorly. I love her no matter what, and I want her to know that. I'm also afraid though that if she continues to fall behind I don't want her to have low self esteem because of it and then deal with all the repercussions of that. She's my little girl. I worry about her.

Ann, have you checked to see if your library has read-a-longs?  This is where you get a CD and the book and she can listen and follow along in the book at the same time.  This helps a lot of kids with their reading in the beginning.

No, I haven't done that. The library closest to us is pretty small, but they have other bigger branches, and do the interlibrary loan thing so I will check that out. Thanks!

How does that work on a Nook? Do you only have them for a certain period of time and they expire?

Hi guys. guess what?? I got inthe pool today! Yay! First time since I broke my arm. Kept it quick, short, and simple, and did breaststroke. *sigh* Now I'm supposed to go for a run, to make up for the run I didn't do Tuesday. It's absolutely beautiful outside, but after waiting an hour for the drywall guy to come walk through my house and say he'd call me with the date the crew will come to do the work (it took all of 3 minutes total!), I am now feeling like the couch might float away without me holding it down. What should I do?
