Subject: Takeru Kobayashi the [Hot Dog] Eating World Champion
I guess many people have heard of Takeru Kobayashi, the little Japanese guy who won that "Hot Dog Eating Contest" by eating 49 hot dogs in 12 minutes. Yesterday, he went to Hong Kong and won another contest (heat) of this sort, swallowed 83 Chinese dumplings in 8 minutes. Today, he is going to compete in the finals, eating Chinese Pork Buns. May be we should start a Tri-eating-athlon......

Makes you wonder if there are training books out there for this sort of thing.

"The Hot Dog Eater's Training Bible"

Take a look at Sonya Thomas, who ranks 2nd in the world of top eats. A sliver of a woman who weighs a mere 105 lbs, I wonder how she discovered her talent.

He ate 100 pork buns (each bun is the size of a kid's fist) in 12 minutes yesterday, average of 7.2 second for each bun.  The runner up only ate 47 buns.

that's scary. They showed an x-ray of his stomach after an eating contest on the Discover Channel about a year ago. You just see all these hot dog pieces in there and it was swollen like a soccer ball. I hope he gets paid well...

Saw something on Discovery Health about that woman. She basically starves herself for two days before those contests, and does a bunch of exercises to help loosen the skin around her stomach so as to prepare for the expansion. I don't know...but some people call that an eating disorder...

Same for Kobayashi.  In an interview, he said he would fast for a couple days before and after the "contest".  I agree the binging part can be an eating disorder, but what about the fact that he can jam 2 hot dogs or buns into his oesophagus at the same time?
