I finally got my new bike. Its a Giant OCR 1 Racing Blue. I'm so excited to get out on my first ride. I'm sure it won't be long but I can't wait anyway. I just have to figure out how to clip into the pedals.

Congrats!!! I got the same one a month ago. Already have 100+ miles on it and have loved everyone. The brakes sound bad first few miles, but after some use they break in and don't sound so bad. Let us know how the first ride goes.

And I hope to be picking up a used trainer today so I can sit on my beautiful baby (no name yet) all winter long.

Boy, that sounded kinda raunchy, didn't it?

Sweet ride. Don't worry about the pedals, you'll get used to them quick. You just need to learn when to unclip.

Don't worry about falling, either. The only times I've fallen have been when I've been standing still or just haven't come unclipped quick enough...nothing major, just sort of like a slow motion fall over.

One little tip about the dismount.  Unclip one foot (if you are right handed I would do the right foot), leave the other foot clipped in. slow down and stand up on the foot that is still clipped in, keep slowing down until eventually you are just about stopped and put the unclipped foot on the ground. Now you are completely stopped and you can unclip the other foot.

If someone had told me this I probably wouldn't have banged up my shin quite so bad. I didn't realized until it was time for me to stop on that first day, that I didn't really know how to dismount. It took me going to a Triathlon to see how everybody did it before I learned that. And on that note I would suggest watching a Tri before your first one. Even watch a couple if you can.

I hope you like yours as much as I do mine! I got mine in may and after riding a mountain bike for the last 15 years it feels like a rocket. Practice the unclip maneuver alot before you ride. I failed to do so and crashed at my first stop, fortunately it was a slow motion fall that harmed nothing but my pride;-)

Also I have my pedals as "loose" as they can go, making it very very easy with clipping in and out. I really didn't have problems getting used to my clipless system. Did your LBS loosen them for you? I don't plan to tighten mine up until I start pulling out of them when I pedal. (it hasn't happened yet)

I'm kind of nervous taking the reflectors off. I mostly will be training early in the morning or late evening during low light conditions. The winding country roads and narrow streets makes it a little dangerous for riding so I think I need as much visibilty as possible. If I could I would attach big spot lights to me as well.

Then keep them on until tri time.

My wife insists that I wear one of those ugly bright yellow (orange? I'm not so good with colors) vests that joggers wear. Those will help with visibility - I'm not sure that there is such a thing when it comes to riding/running and ANY hour of the day.

Um...I thought you guys were joking about the reflectors thing....why take them off?

They add weight, interfere with the aerodynamics of your bike, and add little value.

All of what Chucky says here is true with exception of the "little value". They are exceptionally valuable at night.

I took my reflectoras off and added a little reflective tape to my training helmet and my rear mounted bottle carriers. I think the tape is much more visable at night.
