Total Time = 1h 16m
Overall Rank = 182/486
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 23/43
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5am, muffin & water, get my son up & going then off to the race site.
Event warmup:

Cycled about 3 miles w/ a couple of pick-ups, ran about .25 mile, swam about 200 yards.

Ran into fellow BT'r Kendall better know to all as kendallf.
  • 07m 37s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards

A good swim, I started wide & rounded all the bouys well.
Transition 1
  • 01m 55s

Not a great transition, no issues just a litle winded & walked the last few yards to the bike.
  • 34m 46s
  • 12 miles
  • 20.71 mile/hr

The new ride is fast! I probably hammered the hills a bit too much & it affected the run. Real pleased with this bike leg, the fastest pace as I can tell was about 23 mph because of the hills.

Transition 2
  • 01m 16s

Winded getting off the bike not to mention the heat doing its thing.
  • 30m 35s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 11s  min/mile

Well - I guess we can see were my problem is...running. The run was tough & slow, even for me. I battled sinus problems Thursday & Friday...Friday felt like someone clubbed me in the head. I had to walk a couple of times to regain some composure.
Post race
Warm down:

Cheered on Kendall down the fininshing chute, ate & drank free stuff.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I didn't fell well Thurs & Fri, especially Friday. I had planned on driving down Friday night to do training ride Sat but cancelled & went to bed early. So, in light of the health issues, I am pleased with the race that I entered more as a training exercise. I haven't raced as much as I would have liked to to date this year so I hoping to get a couple more sprints in along with an OLY in 2 weeks. The BIG RACE is Oct 22, the 1/2 IM!

Event comments:

I've done 4 of these Sommer Sports Sprints in Clermont & all have been well run, organized & well staffed.

Course: 1st event on my new Cannondale IM 2000! 1st 7 miles are relatively flat after which there are a couple of decent climbs and one really fast descent. Around mile 5 to 6 a large group (6 or 7) passes me & once they past they did not pull away which concerned me with regard to a drafting viloation (They were all drafting but doesn't look like the refs noticed). I decided to keep them close but at the "legal" distance & was able to bank some heart beats coasting to keep distance. At about mile 8 or 9 I decided to overtake them & stayed in front until the last couple of hills. At that point I was tiring & decided to hold something back for the run.

Subject: RE: Central Fl Sprint Series #3 did have a hauling bike ride! Congrats! It's amazing how fast it gets hot during these summer days..I was wilting on the run too. I think a lot of serious people show up for these Clermont sprints, in all of the age groups, what with the Training Center there and all. Congrats on your time (and beating me!)
