How many other BTers doing the Mini this year?  Finally signed up for my 1st one.  Did the Monumental Mary last Fall (9k runners), but the Mini should be crazy (35K).

This will be my third time doing the mini.  It's quite an experience.  The first time I ran I was in coral T and waited nearly 45 minutes to get to the start!!!!!!  Of course I put down a slower time because it was my first ever 1/2 mary.  Now I seed myself to get to the front corals.

You'll have fun though!!  Lots of entertainment along the way.  The crowds are great, and the run on the speedway is very cool.  Looking forward to it again this year.  Hopefully the temps will be mild and not so windy.  Last year, it was cold and sooooo windy.  Of course with thousands of people running, you ended up not feeling the wind at all.  LOL.

As 1st timer I forgot to request seeding.  My PB HM was 2:07 last yr during mary training run.  Goal for mini is sub-2.  Not sure what I can do about the corral thing but accept my fate & try to pick my way through the crowd as it (ahem) thins out.

The mini is fun but very crowded.  I go for the experience, not to set any records.  Last year my corral was for runners that seeded to finish in 1:40.  There were several power walkers (like 20) that were seeded in front of me, not sure how that works?????

^This.  I'm pretty sure there is some sneaking going on in the corrals, especially last minute.

The corral keepers are pretty insistant to see your bib and do not let people enter the wrong corral.

I emailed one of the e-coaches for advice.  In practice today I ran my PB HM by over 3min (2:03:48).  That was mod effort (ave HR 132, hi Z2), on no rest day (32mi last week + some bikes & swims), warm (72deg F), indoors (1/8mi cert track NOT cutting lanes), and poor pacing (10mi/min 1st 9, then cruised 8:14/mi last 4.1mi).   And I've still got 6-7wks left to train.  So I think sub-2hr is realistic if I can weave my way up to that part of the crowd.

BTW- I don't automatically look down on speed-walkers in forward corrals.  Serious European race walkers often do sub-8min miles for 20-50+km.

This will be my 5th mini. I coach a team of runners and walkers from my company. About half of them are blind and run with sighted guides. It is absolutely awesome and inspirational to work with this group each year. If you see athletes with bright yellow "blind runner" vests on, be sure to cheer them on.

Awesome...I am inspired whenever I see someone racing who is blind...inspired by the racer AND the guide.

I am in for my second mini. I would not worry too much about seeding, no matter where you start there will be lots of people and WALKERS!

I just purchased a bib off of craigslist and completed the transfer. It will be my first half marathon!

I was hoping to finish in under 2 hours, but I don't think this is going to happen. My heart rate was over 160 yesterday for my 4 mile race pace run. I can't keep that up for 13 miles. I did bike and run the previous 2 days, but I don't think that's enough of a contributor. I'll definitely be focusing more on speed work, but 5 weeks isn't much time.

Regardless of my time, I'm looking forward to it and will have fun.

I'm back in after a 25yr absence! The last time I ran the race there were probably 4k? people-before there were world class runners included. Now there's 35k some people? Ouch! Hope the prefered start helps. Have fun!

This will be my third go round at the mini.  My very first year, the winners were crossing the finish line just as I hit the start of the loop around the Speedway.  The following year I had at least completed part of the loop before the Kenyans were on their way to the showers.  I can't wait for the year when I'm all the way around the track before the speedsters are done racing!

I'm in Corral M.  Non-seeded so could have been worse.

Any other BTers get their corral assignments?

The mini will be my first HM. Doing it on the recommendation of a friend (it'll be his second time). I'm slow so am currently set for the "T" corral. As it's my first, my goal is to finish sub 3 hrs (I said I was slow ). Not sure whether this will be the first of many or a singular thing for me. It'll depend on how it goes.

Enjoy the heck out of the MANY people and the energy!  Be sure to grab fluids inside the track - if it's sunny, it can be deceivingly hot on the track.  Oh, and after you leave the track...maybe mile 10 or 11 (?) there's a bar that sets up their own "aid station" for the runners!
