OK, so who out there is planning to race in the Caveman Tri in Flower Mound on 4/10?  This will be my first tri and I can't wait.   Any other newbie's out there?

For those that have done this race before, any pointers specific to this race?

FWIW, I volunteered yesterday at the Keller tri and learned a bunch.  My first tri is Benbrook on 3/27.  I suggest you volunteer for that one.  It's worth every minute you spend there.

Good luck.

Yep, I'm in and am a virtual newbie.  Did one sprint tri in late 2009, so this will be my 2nd .  Just got a new (well used, but new to me) bike, so working on getting that piece going a little better.  Happy training....it's going to be fun!

I did the Caveman last year.  It was my first one of the year and second one ever.  I loved it and will be doing it again this year.  Pointers...the run is two loops so don't do one and think you're done!  Other than that, relax and enjoy it!

this is a great race - first the swim 25 yd lanes - so can get crowded, just stay right if you are a slow swimmer

Ride - two loops two hills at the beginning and watch out the second loop since you will have new riders coming out - I believe it is about 13 miles, I know they say 12 but my GPS said 13

Run- two loops, quick coarse, there is one narrow part by the woods but other than that - it is good

This is a great race, the only issue is it can be cold, also they will let the DA beginners go first, so you will end up passing folks

I'm SO glad I was on BT tonight! This race had been my original plan. But, back in November, my sister-in-law decided to run her first marathon on this date. So, I agreed to run a half while she ran the full marathon. Well, she bailed on my Sunday! And, it's a long story, but that means I can't race either (basically, she would have been bringing her mom along to this out-of-state race and her mom would have been the babysitter.) Since Sunday, I've been scrambling to figure out what to do on my would-have-been 2nd Half Marathon day!

I am actually training for my first triathlon on May 7th. But, I think I'm ready for this! Especially as the swim is indoors & a lot shorter than the 500 yards I'll be doing. The bike ride is shorter, too. Hmmm... gotta think this through, but I think I'm in!

Has anyone picked up there packet yet?  I'm picking mine up in McKinney tomorrow.  Wondering if there is any good swag.   Since this is my first triathlon I'm hoping that there may actually be some Caveman Tri gear for sale (would love a Caveman Tri jersey as a souvenir for my first race).

A nice white tech-tee, white caveman socks, your numbers (bib, bike, and helmet #'s) and a bunch of fliers for other races. Over all I'd say a good swag bag

Great race today.  Wind wasn't too bad and I thought the weather was great.   Waiting for time results, but so far two big thumbs up for Dallas Athletes for putting on a great event.

Had a great time on Sunday, had a great swim time, pretty good bike and decent run, but hey that's life and each race you always learn more about how you race and how to adapt. Another great event put on by Dallas Athletes! I'll definitely do this event next year!

This was my first and I enjoyed it and learned a lot. I went to the beginner's clinic on Saturday and Tom (from Dallas Athetes, I think), taught me bunches since I'm a new rider.

Thought the wind was really harsh! And, felt it was pretty hilly. I'm from Houston and where I run & ride is FLAT. But, I felt good about it and learned a lot! That's what I needed for my first tri!

I did this race a couple of years ago and I think this year was much more organized, especially with people on the bike course to direct riders. The traffic was controlled very well on the bike course, which was an issue two years ago (they did change up the bike course - not sure if that was new this year or last).

I had a great time out there. Congratulations to those of you who finished your first triathlon, sounds like there were around 400 of you.

Yes, LOTS of first timers which was really cool.  The atmosphere was really great.  I chatted it up with some many people, especially waiting for my turn in the pool.  So many first timers and those that were more experienced seemed to really like chatting it up with us newbies.
