Pre-race routine:

Got up late, shook off a slight hangover and went down to pick up my race packet. So nice to be able to race in the afternoon! This was my first race since 2009, so I just wanted to get through it with a decent effort.
Swim
  • 13m 47s
  • 800 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

I haven't done a lot of swimming this year, so just wanted to take it very easy and not get too tired. Aimed for an even 40 lengths but managed 36.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Athletes ran from the pool around a roped off area to where the bikes were set up off to the side. I got stuck behind two people from my wave walking side by side down the narrow lane, but since it's a casual event I didn't want to be a douche and push past them, so it felt pretty slow. Bike time includes t1.
Bike
  • 44m 44s
  • 13 miles
  • 17.44 mile/hr
Comments:

After I started pedaling, the race-provided bike computer didn't start for what I would guess was a minute and a half. The race director came by and played with it, and offered to recalculate later based on my average speed but I never went back to find him after the race. Just entered my official recorded time above, and the actual time wouldn't have been too much faster anyway. Again, I just wanted to put in a solid effort and still be able to have a decent run.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Fairly fast transition outside to the run. T2 time included in run time.
Run
  • 27m 44s
  • 2.97 miles
  • 09m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

This is obviously slow for anyone else, but I was really pleased. I was able to get around the lake without stopping, which was my main goal, and one which I wasn't sure I would manage. Really happy that my running is starting to improve again, after a terrible year last year.

Event comments:

Great idea for someone's first race.
