Hey all out there heading to Madison for the Crazylegs. I'm new to it, first timer, any helpful hints? I'd gladly appreciate them. Thanks.

I have never participated, but, from what they show, it's quite congested, so don't expect a fast time unless you get near the front.  Also, coming into Camp Randall is that ramp, so be careful.
Don't forget to drink the free beer at the end.

Pretty nice easy run and the best part is the party afterwards. Hopefully we'll have better weather than the last few years. I've done it a half dozen times and always have a good time.

Congested for sure, but that makes it easier to run faster cuz you just start pickin' people off.

Your comment has me pumped, I almost put on my shoes and went outside! Are you a coach? Are you running?

Don't blow up in the first mile, because it's a lot of downhill. If you're running 1:00/mile faster than you expected, back off. Observatory comes in mile 2 and while it's a short climb, it will hurt. A lot. And then the downhill on the back end of that will make you a little crazy. In short: take it easy until the top of Observatory. That should give you about a 5k to sprint.

Me too. Exactly why I recommend not doing it. :p I ran just shy of a sub-6 first mile and was wondering if I was going to be setting world records that day. Nope, not so much. I was somehow able to hang on and finish at a sub-7 pace, but my goodness was that a bad choice.

I have a friend who experiences ankle pain during longer runs, any suggestions or thoughts on what to advise her?

Will be my first time running it as well and while I'll try to heed UWMadTri's advice, I seem to always go out too fast the first mile of any race. At the Berbee Derby 10k, my first mile was 1:20 faster than my 6th mile. It sucks watching people pass you near the end of a race.

It is a fun run with 20K people, crowded but tolerable for the short distance.  Hope the weather is nicer this year.

After looking at the weather forecast, I'm going to need to find somebody to draft off of after mile 3. It looks like the last 2 miles are going to be fun running directly into 20-25 mph winds.
