I have been trying to do some kind of cardio exercise pretty regularly for the past 4 years. My reason was to try and maintain weight. It hasn't worked real well as you don't really work yourself very hard. Mainly treadmill running and stationary bike. I bought a road bike for my self this year, I have always wanted one but had to save and this is entry level. It is great though. Shortly after I found out my neighbor was doing a triatlon. I had never even seen her train. It shocked me. She was training though, just indoors most of the time. She had a great time and finished well. It got me motivated. I have always been intrigued by tri's, but most of what you see on tv is the Ironman etc. Intimidating to say the least. With not really being much of a runner and having not swam (more than casually with the kids) for a long time I had never given it much thought.

I am now planning on my first one in June of 04. The only reason I have not signed up yet is because they are not doing the 04 registration yet. But having a goal and a training plan has completely changed my life in just five weeks or so. I have begun to do all three sports at least twice a week. I am very slow but don't care. I feel better now than I ever have and that's just with the goal of a tri. I can only imagine what it will feel like after I've actually done one. Thanks for the website and all the motivation as well as the training advice etc. My wife is def. enjoying the change as well. In attitude, body etc. I just need to change my eating habits. That is the hardest part for me.

Have fun!!!

Keep imagining crossing the finish line! Hold onto that image and train with it in mind. When you actually cross the finish line, it will be nothing like you imagined, it will be better.

Still Tri'n

You can't imagine how GREAT it feels to finish your first tri! It is such a boost to your day to day life. Although it really didn't sink in for me for a couple of days afterward. It was extremely surreal. Everything seems much easier. I feel like I can handle most anything! (Can you tell I just finished my first recently?) I'm training for some dus now and during my hardest workouts I have the greatest chant in my head- "this is nothing, you did a tri, this is nothing, you did a tri!"

Keep up the hard work and the food thing will come around. I fight it too- even started Weight Watchers to help me out- I want to lose some(I should say a bunch) before my next race!

Hang in there- its worth it!!!

Thanks for the encouragement. I can't wait. It's hard when your event is 9 months away, but I should be in shape. Thanks again!!

I'm also now in the waiting mode. Did two tris this year. Now getting set to start back in training. I agree with Michael. Keep the goal in sight. It will make the journey more enjoyable. Speed is not of the essence. Laying down the foundation is the most important item now. There will be days where the speed issue will rear it's ugly head and tell you to forget the whole thing. Don't listen to it! My motto this year was "All I gotta do is keep moving forward and I will finish one of these things". It actually worked! ;-)
