I am doing my first tri, and its the littlefoot tri.  Is anyone else doing this one this season? If so let me know so we can chat, I heard the water will be freezing!

I'm not but you can probably pull some info from the race reports on the race listing:

I'm doing it   Have no idea about water temps, but given that it's snowing right now....freezing is a pretty good guess.

Opening day for OWS at Grant Ranch was yesterday, the water was 51-52 degrees...they also said when they were putting the markers out earlier in the week, it was 58-60. IMHO anything below ~65 is close to freezing!

Littlefoot was my 1st ever tri, too.  I've done it twice.  The water is shockingly cold.  I found it helped to sneak in and swim a few days before the race so I was ready for it race day.  I wore 2 swim caps and earplugs.  Good luck and have fun!

I find that when the water is shockingly cold, it helps to get in about half hour before the race. Deal with the shock then and hopefully you will be ready to go when the gun goes off.

Good luck!

If you're a COMSA member, you can go to Chatfield Gravel Ponds on Saturday, or go to Grant Ranch on the weekend to start acclimating.

I did the littlefoot the first year they ran it, but I am not doing it this year.

Water temp will probably be around 60 on race day.  That is cold but bearable.

Once I got into the water and adjusted to the initial shock of the cold, I didn't feel that cold while swimming, but my hands were so cold once I came out of the water that I couldn't make them do what I wanted them to do in T1.

I would suggest investing in a neoprene cap.

Last year was probably 51ish.  Fun bike course, but I'm going to give the Summer OPEN another go this year.  Water temp 2 years ago was low 60's at Union Reservoir.
