Swim
Comments: Very good swim. Non wetsuit, so was a little nervous thinking the normal course was in effect, but fear went away when I saw the new. Breathing was great, sighting was AWESOME, swam as straight a line as I think I ever have. Only issue was traffic. Too many people at first turn which really slowed that down. Prolly added 15 seconds. Had a few issues swimming into people, but for the most part I was doing the passing, prob because the faster swimmers were already in front at the turn. Very happy. Best leg of the day, when swim is usually my worst. What would you do differently?: NADA!!! Transition 1
Comments: Because of the swim change, the run to T1 closed just over a half mile on my Garmin. Wasn't too bad, but due to my lack of run speed got passed by most heading to T1. Other than that, no issues, went well. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: Holy Windy! Wind was mostly out of the east, which meant crosswind for most of the race. Had a few sections of tail wind but those were few and far between. It was hard. Stayed aero for most of the race but due to lower back pain, last 5 miles or so were out of aero. Still better than last year. Avg was half mph better than last year, which brought me in a little over 2 min better, but still disappointed. Was hoping for 19.5+. What would you do differently?: More training in headwinds I suppose. Transition 2
Comments: Faster than last year by 11 seconds, so good. Only thing that slowed me was legs starting to cramp getting running shoes on. What would you do differently?: Better bike training could've helped with the cramping. Run
Comments: SUCKED!!! Was seriously hoping to beat last year's time, and by much more than 8 seconds :( Wasn't keeping a very fast pace, but was moving. Then the quad cramps were too much and started run/walk. 3 hrs is just a long time to be moving. What would you do differently?: run more Post race
Warm down: Hung out with OYMers and a few other friends, grabbed a beer and some pizza, then had to head home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training in the last 2 months before the race. Every time Emma starts softball, my available training time decreases immensely. Got up at 5, packed up room, had a clif bar, pepsi max, half bagel. Setup transition and metup with OYM guys. watched pros enter and exit swim.
Swam for about 10 mins.
