Hawk-I in a month - I'm fired up!

Anyone want to make their goals public?

I think I can get down from 1:04:12 to somewhere in the 1:01 range...if everything goes well (weather, no equipment issues, etc.)

Good Luck to you!  I haven't done Hawk Island but have heard plenty about the race - and all positive.

I finished in 1:17:26 last year...so shooting for under 1:15:00.  Haven't really been training, so we'll see what happens!

Going for under an hour.  If I don't blow up 1st, or have a major oops.

Under an hour would be awesome!  Have you done the race before?

This year they're talking about doing an "elite" wave at the start for all men who went under 60 minutes and women who went under 70 minutes.  It would be very cool to qualify for that.

I watched my wife do it last year.  No elite wave for me.  But I did register for the elite wave in the T-rex series this year.  I made the 1:15 time there last year.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't been training.  This will be my third year doing this race but I know I'm going to go slower than last year.  I'm mainly going to be there to support my 12 year old daughter in her first real triathlon.  Unlike me, she swims like a fish and runs like a deer.

CraigT- having three young daughters myself (7, 5, and 4)- none of which have yet to do a tri, I bet watching your daughter tear it up will be YOUR "best" tri yet!

Agreed!  My 6 year old was going to do his first "triaflon" today, but they didn't have enough kids.  He really wants to do one this summer, and there are some nice options.

Maybe he'll swim like a fish too, someday!

My daughter has done the Millenium Park kids triathlon twice.  I think its a good introduction to triathlon.  My biggest complaint was that the swim is a joke as the water is so shallow they have to walk more than swim.  My daughter is a competitive swimmer so that was a big disadvantage for her.  However, I would highly recommend it for younger kids, its a good event and well organized even though they screwed up on the bike course last year by not having the younger kids turn around at the half way point.

At 12, my daughter does both middle school cross country and track and has been in a competitive swim program for 4+years.  At her last track meet she ran a 13:59 two mile and backed it up with a 6:39 mile.  She can also swim about a 1:10 for 100 yards.  She isn't a real strong biker but I am very anxious to see how she is going to do at a real triathlon.  I'm really worried that she is going to beat the old man.

The Hawk is my first tri.  No time goals. My bigger question is choosing the right wetsuit.  I'm down to trying to choose between the Xterra Volt or Vortex 3 (both sleeveless).  Xterra live chat reps suggest the Vortex 3, which they say is more buoyant and will provide extra warmth (which sounds good to me of course).  I can't get over thinking they just want me to buy the more expensive suit.  With coupon code Vortex 3 is $169.  Volt is $99.  Thoughts?

Sleeveless vortex is $149 using coupon code ST.  I paid $99 last year and have seen it for that since then.  The volt is new and thinner neoprene.  No experience with it.

For what its worth, I got my wetsuit on Ebay, brand new 2XU Comp full for $99.  Might want to check there for another option

That's awesome - get'em going early!  Biking is probably the easiest of the 3 to pick up later, so it's only going to get worse for you.

Humbling times...I think 1:21 is my lowest 100 and my fastest mile isn't too much lower than 6:39.  Glad to be racing M 30-34!

My goal is pretty simple, finish the race. I tore my shoulder in the swim last year (made it as far as the first bouy).

Only trouble I am having is the two pools I train in are both closed for maintance this month, so I have been swimming at one of the hotels here in town. Makes for a long day when your in a 10m pool trying to get 400m worth of swimming in.

This weekend I will be running my 3rd 5k of the year, and i have been riding bike to work for the last two months, so I just need to get through the water.

It's my first tri too, and I'm going to keep the expectations light as well, so in response to the topic question, as fast as it takes Laughing

You have no idea, swim for 8-10 strokes, turn, repeat. Mainly working on form and breathing with shorter set. Hawk-I is nice in the fact that there are enough boats in the water that if you can't swim the full 400m you can rest for a minute then continue. I am counting on that this year with my crappy swim training.
