Sunny
Total Time = 1h 25m 54s
Overall Rank = 41/133
Age Group = F20-29
Age Group Rank = 5/25
Pre-race routine:

Had to be up early to get into transition at 615 even though my heat wasn't set to go till 10:05. Had a coffee and bagel and sat around
Event warmup:

About 200m free in the wings of the pool
Swim
  • 10m 40s
  • 750 meters
  • 01m 25s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pool swim that was seeded on estimated swim time...the two people who went ahead of me way over-estimated their swim times...I lapped one guy and nearly caught up to the other.
What would you do differently?:

I was pretty dehydrated by the time I hit the water from sitting around in the hot pool all morning...not optimal. Drink more? Probably couldn't have done a whole lot more other than gone faster...haha
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Time included in bike time. It was a pretty far run with the bike and the wind kept knocking my bike off a bit...saw one guy carrying his bike rather than have the wind throw it around while he was running.
Bike
  • 44m 57s
  • 20 kms
  • 26.70 km/hr
Comments:

Harder than it should have been. Need to switch out my cassette for IMLP for sure...Nasty hill with nasty headwind 4x through. Didn't go very well in my opinion.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Time included in bike time. Got back to transition and the people around me had crowded my bike...since I was in the last heat everyone was back...
Run
  • 30m 18s
  • 5.8 kms
  • 05m 13s  min/km
Comments:

Run went alright...just longer than I had anticipated because the course was incorrectly measured. Oh well.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, massage with the stick and stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just not used to the severity of hill that is Emily Murphy...afterwards everyone was talking about how they wished they had another gear to dump. The wind has been ridiculous out here so that didn't help. Lost my nerve a bit on the bike due to the roughness of the course...I should have taken a full ride of the loop...but it is a busy area of town and I don't feel all that comfortable riding it by myself. The first loop was basically me surveying to make sure I knew where all the big potholes were.

Bit bummed I didn't podium :(

Event comments:

Bummed I didn't podium. Didn't perform as well as I would have liked. Fatigue from training volume maybe. First race of the weekend. Swim went fine...but the bike and run...not so much. And that is what I have been focusing on for the past 2 months...:(

Course: 4 laps of a 5km course. RIDICULOUS hill with RIDICULOUS headwind 4x through. Not fun. The roads were in bad shape from the winter too...it was pretty well marked but there were some obstacles that couldn't be avoided. Nearly got hit by idiots in cars a few times...they had police at all the busy intersections but the course wrapped around the UofA campus...so it was busy and some people wern't paying attention to the fact a race was going on!
