Subject: RE: 43 mile comute? My commute is 12 miles OW... so when I ride to work, it is always to do a long ride on the way home. Commuting saves time. You need the miles, and you need to get to work, so this condenses things.... but ya, a 40 mile commute is a lot of time in one day. Easily 5 hours after it's all said and done. If you have 5 hours in a work day go for it. If you split it overnight then that is really 2 40 mile rides back to back. Still back to back in one day, but it's one day... you can rest one day. Certaily you can do it, probably not that often. Once a week would satisfy long rides and free up your weekend. I commuted 32 r/t with about 1000ft in elevation back when I was doing it fulltime. That was too much 5x a week. Legs were shot by Wed. Not enough recovery Sat/Sun. Doing two a days is not the best way to get milage. But once a week would be fine. I would probably do it. |
