Run
Comments: I was in the first heat- which included the male and female pros. I thought it'd be fun to try and keep up. Not so much. I started out at like a 6:30 pace or something- I can't run that fast, so after 1/4 mile I dropped to an 8 minute pace which I am comfortable with for a 5K. Felt really good until the heel started acting up. I checked the Garmin and I was averaging an 8:25 pace at the turnaround, so I was psyched. The 2nd half was definitely a lot slower, but I kept at it. The right achilles continues to be a huge problem so I needed to slow down for it. Still managed to sprint out the finish and came close to a personal best for a 5K. Not sure exactly what my PR is, but this was very close. What would you do differently?: Nothing, it was fun. I went all out and gave 100%. Transition 1
Comments: LOL- 3 hour transition! We drove from Longmont to Littleton and had a burrito. Best transition ever! What would you do differently?: They should all be this easy! Swim
Comments: Freezing! Not scientifically, that'd be 32 degrees. But the water was wicked cold. It hurt my face and feet. Did totally average at sighting. I was hoping to come in @ 22:00 or at most 23:00. I easily added 100 yards to this swim due to lousy sighting. Oh well, first open water race of the year and I was up in the front of the pack for my age group. This was the USAT National Championship and I know I can swim with the best. What would you do differently?: Warm the water up about 25 degrees. Transition 2

Post race
Warm down: Froze my tush off on the shore and was amazed I swam through those conditions. I also had a piece of pizza. What limited your ability to perform faster: I was like a freakin' popsicle. Event comments: It's no secret I'm a big fan of Without Limits... I have no ties to them other than I love to race with them. Just a terrific job of improvising because Mother Nature had other plans for the water. Great day- and I can't wait for Summer OPEN tomorrow! Last updated: 2011-03-23 12:00 AM

First race of the year and I slept relatively well. The usual routine after waking up- power bagel, yogurt, V8, and a quad espresso. Met Steve @ his place and we drove up. Checking in was wicked fast... stripped down to race clothes and warmed up.
This thing turned into a cluster**** because of the e.coli in Union Res. Lance and Co. managed to get us a swim course @ Grant Ranch, while the run remained in Longmont. Basically had to warm up for a 5K and then a 3 hour transition to the swim :) Short warmup- high knees run for 1/2 mile. Stretched and ready to go.
