Overcast
Total Time = 1h 18m 33s
Overall Rank = 74/248
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 17/30
Pre-race routine:

Ate a banana and a piece of wheat bread, peanut butter and honey before heading out the door (I always eat this pre-race for runs, so I knew what my stomach would do). Ate half a powerbar on site. Got there at 5:30 and relaxed set up and used the restroom.
Event warmup:

Jogged half mile along course, swam maybe 50m in cold water.
Swim
  • 10m 49s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

First OWS! Got kicked in face near start and I threw me off, could not find my pace after that. Kept burping from swallowing water. I actually feel ok about this swim since I only started swimming 4 months ago.
What would you do differently?:

More OWS practice, more time in water in general.
Transition 1
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

Had to put my shoes on before leaving my station which slowed me down a lot. The rest went pretty good. I did get the running leap onto my bike at the mounting line.
What would you do differently?:

Need tri shoes!
Bike
  • 40m 21s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Tore up the bike course, I slowed down only to go through some corners that had gravel. I am a strong climber and passed many people on the big hill. The people passing me were all on aero bikes and I was not. Hit 35 mph going down the long hill.
What would you do differently?:

It would be nice to have an areo bike. I feel I was a little conservative on my pace.
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

This one went well other than not have enough space to quickly rack my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Try and get more rack space for my bike
Run
  • 22m 53s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 07m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Run went ok. I found I had to pee after the first mile because I drank too much on my bike. This slowed me down a little. I have had longer runs at a faster pace but I think I slowed down with the gravel.
What would you do differently?:

Not drink half a bottle of water on the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nerves on the swim, learning my pace as I still had some gas left in the tank after the race.

Event comments:

Only thing I did not like was the organizers changed the bike route several times and shortened the swim from 750m to 500m and did not really do a good job at notifying anyone. Other than that it was well put together and a lot of fun.

Bikeday solid performance!

Im glad to see them shorten the swim to 500 after seeing how many people were struggling on the swim but only wished they had posted or emailed everyone the course changes.
