Swim
Comments: Ok, did we have to go around the yellow bouy or not? I did, but with few others:( 3 minutes into the swim somebody literally tore my timing chip almost all the way off my ankle so I ad to turn over and float for a minute or so to re-secure. Purposely stayed in the "scrum" the entire way to practice. A little frustrating but I needed the experience. Slowed me down a little. What would you do differently?: Ensure better timing chip security. Listen better to race instructions on course. Transition 1
Comments: Just kind of took it slowly What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Massive crash literally 10 minutes into the trail ride. I was ok, but bike gears/chains/derauiller very messed up. Some guy stopped and helped me get it back at least functional but i only had 2 gears for almost the entire ride. Very much appreciative of him stopping to help as i was almost ready to start walking it out. Loved the trails, will try and go down there again before the summer is out. What would you do differently?: learn some basic bike mechanics to be better prepared for accidents and machinery malfunction. Ride the trails prior to race as not knowing what is coming obviously slows you down a little bit. Transition 2
What would you do differently?: No socks Run
Comments: Running on beach out of t2 was a challenge for me and i didnt know if we could run on sidewalk. Took about 1 mile for my legs to come in from the bike. miles 2-3.5 were decent, but i felt myself dropping off the last .5 mile. I become VERY HOT and the 2nd aid station could not have come sooner for me. What would you do differently?: pushed a little harder. i had more in me but after the debacle on the bike i kind of just settled in for a nice trail jog. Post race
Warm down: Immediately racked my bike, grabbed the ice-cold gatorade and went down to the lake and got in. Again, for me it became very hot. Sat in lake for about 10 minutes taking in the gatorade. Didn't feel very much like eating anything. What limited your ability to perform faster: Bike wreck so early in the trail resulting in limited gear changes. unfamiliarity with trails also impacted aggressiveness. Event comments: Overall a good 1st race of the season to get things going again. The swim course/directions seemed to be confusing but that may be my own fault for not paying better attention. I just assumed on my own that we had to round the final buoy. Volunteers were great and i would definately do again. Last updated: 2011-05-16 12:00 AM

Pretty Routine - Bananna 2 hours pre-race, Whole Grain Bagel w/PB 1.5 hours pre-race, Diet Mt. Dew for the car ride and then sipped 32 oz gatorade for 1 hour prior. Gu 15 min before swim.
Got in the cold water to acclimate 15 min prior to start. used wax earplugs for first time to keep cold water out of ear canal, used 2 swim caps. In the end, water wasnt that bad.
