Pre-race routine:

Set up transition, had a snack on the drive down to Caesar Creek.
Event warmup:

Put on my wetsuit and went for a quick swim.
Swim
  • 12m 2s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 22s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a little trouble sighting in the one direction, and the current was against us out to the first buoy (and also pushing toward shore a bit). Once rounding that buoy, it was a lot quicker out to the other end.

Run up to T1 was an additional 51 seconds
What would you do differently?:

Probably could have pushed harder.
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

A little slow getting the wetsuit off, but not hateful. Only the second time I've taken it off, and the first time in a race. Being a lower key event, I wasn't that motivated to hurry in transition, especially since there weren't many people there with me in T1.
What would you do differently?:

Move faster.
Bike
  • 39m 27s
  • 12.32 miles
  • 18.74 mile/hr
Comments:

Probably could have pushed much harder up the hills, but wasn't really feeling the race tonight. Still got a great workout out of it though.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder on the climbs, there was plenty of time to recover on the descents.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

As I came into T2, I was informed they were calling the race due to the approaching storm and some bad lightning very close by, so instead of a T2, I packed everything up in the car and got ready to leave. Then hung around and chatted for a bit, and once we realized the storm was going to miss us, several of us went ahead and ran the run course anyway.
Run
  • 28m 49s
  • 3.23 miles
  • 08m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Definitely could have pushed harder on the run, but with the lag time between the bike and run, and knowing I wasn't really being timed at this point made it hard to move all that fast. I did at least maintain a faster pace than my usual "easy" run pace.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Hopped in the car, drove home towards some very dark clouds looming above.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Motivation. It was a bit odd racing on a Wednesday night, but I think I can overcome that next time. Also, having fewer people around me when racing made it harder to push myself too. That said, I did enjoy the lower key nature of this race, and look forward to the next one. Can't beat a $12 tri.

Event comments:

A great very low key triathlon. Only $12 with preregistration, so you can't beat it when it's $43 cheaper than everything else out there. Disappointed that the bike course had 9 miles shaved off and they called the race before the run, especially since the weather held off, but I understand why they did. Better safe than sorry, and with the weather we've had lately you can't complain since we were able to get some kind of race in. Plus, did I mention it was only $12?
