Total Time = 1h 11m 27s
Overall Rank = 8/267
Age Group = 20 - 24
Age Group Rank = 2/10
Pre-race routine:

Ate toast with butter in the morning and tried to drink full nalgene of water, other than that not much!
Event warmup:

Swam out about 200 yards and came back, didn't do any running or bike warm up though.
Swim
  • 12m 29s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

Was pretty happy with this swim. Felt like I conserved a lot of energy with the new wetsuit, but also felt like it was still a good effort and I never really got kicked around during the beginning.
What would you do differently?:

Work on breathing 22322 more as well as just swimming with a little harder effort if possible.
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

Got out of the water pretty quickly, kind of walked a tiny bit, but not a whole lot. In transition area. Got wetsuit off pretty quick. Didn't have too much difficulty getting it over my heels and was pretty happy overall with this. Got onto the bike and up to speed pretty quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Try and work on getting the top part of my wetsuit off while running to transition area.
Bike
  • 37m 18s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 19.95 mile/hr
Comments:

This was the part of the race today that I was most worried about since I got killed so badly on the bike last year. I thought it went pretty well. I only got passed by 3 or 4 people and I kept my cadence and speed up.
What would you do differently?:

Continue to work on bike speed, especially up and down the hills. Possibly try and make the bike more aerodynamic for races and just continue to build on the engine that I slowly started work on this winter! : )
Transition 2
  • 00m 53s
Comments:

Kind of just dismounted pretty casually and ran a little sloppily to the transition area. Got the bike on the rack and helmet off then struggled a little bit to get the bike shoes off and running shoes on. I could feel how tired I was and banged up my feet pretty good on the bike. The pads of my feet felt pretty numb most of the run and I had some minor bleeding on the left side of my right foot. But was fairly happy with this transition.
What would you do differently?:

Work on better dismount from bike and also work on getting shoes on and off a little faster. Other than that it doesn't seem like there's too much more that can be done.
Run
  • 19m 43s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 06m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Was really happy with this run, since I felt dead tired from really trying to pour a lot of my effort into the bike. Thought I should have been able to out kick a guy at the end that ended up beating me in the last 200 to 150 meters, but was still happy that I stuck around him most of the run.
What would you do differently?:

Put more work into foot speed and speed work as well as really practicing some bricks instead of the half-ass bricks that I've done in training so far this season.
Post race
Warm down:

Not a whole lot since I didn't wanna continue to run without socks in my racing flats and couldn't get into the transition area to get my trainers. Tried to stay somewhat warm and not sit down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much. Just need to continue working hard at what I've been doing for the last 5 months and not give up. Not sure if being sick earlier in the week leading up to the race even made a difference. May have actually given me a taper, which I didn't want yet, but what can you do.

Event comments:

Great race put on by Element Events. If there's one or two things that they could change to make better I think they could change the awards. Even if I was over 21 I would rather get a medal than a bottle of wine. Also, maybe they could have a separate sprint & oly transition area, since it kind of sucked not being able to get to my warm clothes and training shoes when I was done with the race.
