Swim
Comments: Beautiful morning until about 3 minutes to the start. Then a fairly massive thunderstorm rolled in. All of us thought it might slide off to the north, and we'd be unaffected. No such luck. We got the gun to go, and within the first 100 meters I heard thunder, got a leaky goggle, and my swim pretty much went to hell in a hand-basket. The leaky goggle was my right lens. Well, that's the eye I usually sight with, as I take a breath. I wear contacts, so with a goggle full of water, I had to keep one eye closed for the rest of the swim. Tinted goggles in a thunderstorm also do not help sighting much. :) Oh, and after the turn for home, the monsoon hit. It was raining BUCKETS on us for the home stretch. I never got into good form, and my swim definitely suffered. What would you do differently?: relax and go Transition 1
Comments: ok T1 for me, except I whiffed on my first attempt to put my shoes into the clips. I thought I might had a LSF (Low-Speed Fall) right at the mount line in front of everyone. At least the water would have cushioned my fall. :) What would you do differently?: Hurry Bike
Comments: Considering my bronchitis had not let me ride or run for two weeks, I was happy with this. Could I have gone faster? Sure, but no reason to push it on the first day back. The rain was fairly strong, but only on the corners did it really bother me. Otherwise, I just kind of ignored it. What would you do differently?: Brought a propeller for the lakes in the street. Transition 2
Comments: Wow...REALLY slow here. I do not know what happened. Just painfully slow. What would you do differently?: Get moving. Run
Comments: Loved this run course. I wish I actually could have put together a strong run. Illness just sapped me, and I only managed to keep running at a slow pace. What would you do differently?: All things considered, not much. Post race
Warm down: Hung out and watched a few others come in. There were not many left by that time. :P What limited your ability to perform faster: Sick for two weeks leading up to the race...almost zero training. Event comments: Awesome race, as usual by Jersey Shore MultiSport. Got to hear the RD, Chris, give me a BT shout-out as I crossed the finish-line....very cool!! Thanks Chris, nice to meet you! Same old routine, up at 3:30, in car at 4:00, onsite by 5:30.
Warm up swim, got fondled by a crab (again), enjoyed the warm water.
RD added a nice touch by recognizing veterans who were racing. Always chokes me up a bit to remember by brothers (and sisters) in arms.
