Pre-race routine:

Wake up, eat, drink coffee, shower, set up T1 and wait for 2 hours to start.
Swim

  • 500 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

The first turn bouy is about 100y away. I usually swim pretty straight and I had line up to take it about 5ft wide. I put my head down and took about 15 strokes then ended up right on the bouy. I got a good beat down. I think I was vertical for a long time and couldnt get away from it all. I think it cost me about 10-15 seconds. I should have started closer to the front than I did also. After that the rest of the swim went well.
Also the posted times are wrong and off by 2:00 min. The 9:57 is per my garmin and exactly 2:00 min slower than website.
What would you do differently?:

Not take the first tour bouy tight.

T1 went good. Need to get the shoes on better once on the bike.

Comments:

Road this one blind. Bike computer was out and the garmin was full of water on the screen and fogged. Should have pushed it a little more. Took about 2-3 min to get the HR down and feeling good. New self made water bottle worked great. Next is to keep that drink cold because that crap tastes horrible hot.

Just to run faster heading out, other than that I will take 3 of my AG anytime.
Run
  • 29m 4s
  • 2.8 miles

Comments:

Felt ok to start legs were a little tight. Started about a 9:30 pace for 1/2 mi then dropped it to 8:50. At about the 1.5 mi mark I was just dead. Legs were ok but I was gassed couldnt breath. Really disappointed as I walked at 3 different times. Legs were ready to go but the lungs just couldnt keep up. I think the heat got to me more than I realized during the race. Need to get the mind right and just run a slower continous pace than run and have to walk when things just arent going right.
What would you do differently?:

I think I need to start wearing a hat to run in also. Start a little slower and drop the pace less.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat down in shade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Small let down on the run. I just dont think I got to show my true run level. 3 weeks ago I was 8:55 pace at TexasMan and felt good after the run. Oh well there is always another race to have fun at.
