Hubby and I are planning on doing this tri.  It will be our first, so obviously we'll be doing the sprint.  We haven't registered yet though...hope to in the next couple of weeks.  I was just curious if anyone else was doing it, and if anyone did it last year or has any tips or anything.

I'll be there. Have heard great things about this event. Very friendly. It will be my second tri.

Very good race.  The roads are pretty safe, low traffic and nice riding.  The run is on a multi use path, almost flat and the trees shade it most of the way.   No weeds in the water.

I'm glad to hear so many good things about it.  The pictures from last year looked awesome.  It is pretty local to us, so I am rather excited.  Since we know the area, we are going to head over before the race and do a few open water swims, and ride the bike route...if I'm really brave we might run the race route one day too.  I don't want to over do it though since this is our first and we are still very much in the conditioning phase...we are going to do our best, and be happy if we finish!

I am (was) really looking forward to this race since our cabin is less than 10 miles from the venue and it was going to be my first OLY. Unfortunatly my son is having brain surgery at the end of the month so I am holding off to sign up until he is out of the clear.

Is this race wetsuit legal?  Are we going to be the only ones there without wetsuits if we decide not to rent them? lol.

3D doesn't make announcements about wetsuits until race week.  I would guess though the water will be at, or appoaching the point where wetsuits will be illigal.  If you don't rent, you certainly won't be the only ones not wearing a wetsuit!

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. It has been quite overwhelming, but apperently the procedure is quite common. Anyway, I am looking forward to particpating and my workouts will take a hit, but I am sure I will find time to gain some sense of sanity.

Seems like it was half and half lst year on wetsuits.  It's a deep lake, well over 100' in large areas.

Just wanted to say MIKEWOODS and I did the Olympic last year and are tentatively planning to do the race again this year...maybe the sprint though, depending on how much training gets done in the next few weeks.

It was a fun race.  I hated the run though.  Torture for me is running on a straight, flat, boring rail-trail.  Blah.

Luckily we live right by it, so we'll be doing a couple OWS there to get used to it...glad to hear we won't be the only one's with no wet suits...I'm definitely not going to worry about it then...and I'm totally not looking forward to the run since it's an out and back, but the scenery should at least make it a little better than running on a track I figure. lol.

I am riding the course in the morning.  I plan on starting about 5:30, ride from C-ville to millington and back to Ottter Lake on the rail trail.  This will allow time for the sky to get light and I can start the course in Otter lake.  I should hit Otter Lake about 6:20- 6:30 if you all want to ride along.

Glad to hear all the discussion about the race.  First and foremost we are praying for successful surgery.

I like to hear the comments regarding the course and what people like and don't like.  Some people like the flat, fast and shaded.  But I can see how those get boring too.

We have some things in the works to spice up the run course this year.  We can't change that its flat or that its an out and back, but we try to give you things that you don't normally see in run courses in a tri.

Some ideas are still in the planning stages, and we are open to suggestions... so feel free to send them.

Hope to see you all on July 17th.

I just registered today for the sprint. We need to plan a training day for some biking and running. I can usually do Saturday mornings. We are planning on having a Team Ben tent out there for anybody to use.

I wouldn't mind a brick workout before the race. Keep me posted on what you decide.

Darn! That would have been great, but I just saw this!  If anyone heads out for other workouts please post up, we'd love to join in if we're available!

I’m going to ride the bike course and possibly go for a swim in Otter Lake Saturday 7/2; if anyone is interested let me know a time that works.

What time are you talking about?  I get out of work around7-7:30.  I could make Otter Lake in about 30 minutes from work.

Who's in for this Saturday the 9th? I am thinking morning, around 7:30-8. Maybe ride the olympic course and run a couple after. I can always adjust to what everyone wants to do.
